Doggy Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Haha! Whenever someone says "it isn't optimized yet" I have to laugh. This is NOT an early beta. Beach runs a GF9800GX2 (I think) - a very top end card - if your packing less expect your experience to be worse! Optimization will net what two or three frames a second at best? Want faster frame rates? Drop down the res or details. "Not yet optimized" is one of the biggest euphamisms in game developement ever! Rant over. Oh, and three days later and I still can't download Beach's video either! I hope that low FPS parts of the video (where both choppers are in the spot) were caused by a capturing SW. Otherwise I'm really afraid of sim playability on other than top-end cards. I'd like to see what FPS it will have in some mission with dozen of choppers and other aircrafts, some missiles in the air etc. All Videos we've seen are pretty friendly to GPU, except for GA movies of course :) that's other case. Btw, he's currently upgrading his rig... maybe one of the reasons are increased system demands with latest BS builds, who knows.... I´m not a software developer but I know that one can optimize files and textures to lower the workload of the system. For example: There is a workaround in FSX to increase fps at about 20 with change texture files to another format... I never worried about fps in games. If my system cannot run it properly I decrease the details and resolution. And if I want to play it with all details I upgrade my PC or buy a new one.:P:D Deutsche DCS-Flughandbücher SYSSpecs: i7-4790K @4GHz|GA-Z97X-SLI|16GB RAM|ASUS GTX1070|Win10 64bit|TrackIR5|TM Warthog/Saitek Pro Pedals

Doug97 Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J4LD3JBO I prefer Rapidshare because it's much faster and doesn't spam you with pop-ups, but some people don't know how to bypass the 1 file per hour limit, so I put it on Megaupload. D/l speed is ~100Kb/s for me. SimHQ link still not working, so thanks Acedy! I'm getting 250Kb/sec.

McVittees Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Nope. You totally misinterpreted mine, as I was refering to McVittees. :D Don't worry Feuerfalke I knew that! :) I was of course being unecessarily provocative. Armed assault is a great example of optimisations improving a game's engine - the last few patches boosted FPS performance dramatically! It's just a shame that maybe Bohemia didn't take as much time to finish off their product before launch as (it seems) ED are! I would guess, and any developers/beta testers please jump in at any point, that whatever performance you get in FC now would be a good barometer to what you'll get in BS. Btw has anyone actually promised optimisations in the games graphic engine? As I understand it, its the same engine but with more detail. Feuerfalke Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 No worries, McVittees. Hope you didn't take my comment too serious. Being active at both, the 1C boards and this one, it sometimes shocks me how many statements like this are posted and honestly you are amongst only a few who actually add a line, that their opinion is somewhat rant to fish for official statements or similar things. Instead a lot of people take it as a personal offence, if other people than the devs answer or relate to their threads, which sometimes just makes me a little.... :gun_rifle: MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD

I cannot dl from megaupload, because the site is banned in Turkey. I cannot watch it on youtube, because it is also banned. I will get crazy now..... Isnt there any other dl site.? Banned? Why?? My moviemaking channel at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/RobertDamli
airea Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Banned? Why?? I guess megaupload was used for illegal sharing of copyrighted material. With a court order, the site was banned. When it comes to youtube, there were some content humiliating Turkish Republic and its founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. That is why the site was again banned with a court order.

BeachAV8R Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Where is Wags' movie by the way? He said he will make new Producer's Note #6 for us in last week. Wags movie should be a lot more educational than mine…he’s got the knowhow about all these systems, I’m just flipping switches and hoping something happens! Sorry about the download problems we had at SimHQ guys..we were testing out a new downloads server, and by all accounts it did OK, but the number of connections just exceeded our ability (I think). We appreciate the enthusiasm for the series and even though we’d like to get the traffic through our site too, we understand that people were anxious to view the video. Beach should buy his wingie a coupla rounds....... he took some damage... wasn't even pissed.. I don’t speak Russian..so maybe he WAS pissed and I just couldn’t understand him..lol.. Yeah, trees are definately new from what we see in LOFC and I think You're right thereminqblank - it's probably made by SIM-MOD. Perfect work with them I just want to say, just perfect. Trees are different in size, different in colours, we've got conifers, deciduous trees, empty trees. They look VERY realistic imo. I think I also I was wrong with the ground textures - they might be new too. The terrains and trees are coming out fantastic..the guys doing the modding are just incredible. The low level sense of speed is great.. Wow, the fps are really bad in some scenes!! I'm worried You think so? They were very smooth in-game actually…although the FRAPS overhead does take a bit of a chop in my FPS when I’m recording. Particularly in that I recorded at full FRAPS resolution and I was reading/writing to the same hard-drive. FPS was better than what you saw..and frankly, I thought the FPS was still fluid even in the video.. Yeah the wingman behavior looks right. Can`t have enough to stare at the outside model of the Ka-50...and with the cannon in action... Indeed. Watching that cannon fire from the external view is awesome. And the sound from the cockpit is killer.. P.S. I do have one correction for Beach. The ABRIS should not display target movement, as it has no real-time information on any ground units. It simply displays their starting position as loaded from the ME. Thank goodness I have the smart people here to keep me straight!! He is quite right. The blue shading shouldn’t move..although it does adjust for altitude and terrain masking. Since the helo doesn’t have any RWR gear I should have known that it wouldn’t have any way to ascertain the strength/location of a signal (or whether it was turned off/on). So indeed..those threat circles are preloaded into the ABRIS prior to the mission… Good catch! ” So I did what any self respecting guy would do, and wait for him to land, and as he's taxiing in, shoot off a Vicker at him.” Haha..yeah..I was pissed when I missed him in flight..and then I got all whacked out with regards to finding him again with my Shkval sensor. So I just waited for him to land..lol.. Would have liked to have seen a sortie in a High-Threat environment with a coupla of Mobile Tors and the like what with the absence of a RWR......... I think Matt should do that one..<grin> I’d be dead meat..I’d be looking down in the cockpit trying to figure out what button I needed to push and I’d be toast. I’d say for hard missions or ones with tricky mission designs, one will have to be pretty familiar with their helicopter and weapons system to be effective. I’m still just working on the very basics..hopefully I’ll get better with time. Beach, if you made that comment because you saw that circle move, or change in its area--I think it is changing based on your current altitude. When you fly in mountains you will notice the threat circle change, as you change altitude. I think it is tell you, at your current altitude, and LOS towards the threat, whether you are in its engagement zone. <grin> Yeah..you are dead-on right. Someone has been reading their manual <wink>..lol.. Thanks everyone else for the comments..I know we aren’t always covering what you might want to see, but hopefully we are getting around to it. Regards.. BeachAV8R 1
VMFA117_Poko Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks for video and answers. I really like Your review - it's essential. Many things happen there and a lot to talk about after watching. Can't wait for next Wags' note and for release even more. Cheers
Feuerfalke Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks for all that Q&A, BeachAV8R. As it was posted before, your approach might not be as educational as Wags or as cinematic as GAs movies, but we get a great feeling of what our first rides will be like and it's a lot of fun. To that ABRIS-question: I remember that there was a statement in the navigational dev-update, that there was an option to position new objects and thread-markers manually while inflight. Now, while the position is not updated, is it possible to locate a target with the sensors and position a marker with threat-circle there? That would be really cool, as this testing of holes in the defense was one of my favourite parts in Janes LB2. I believe you are correct - and indeed I think that was featured in Matt's excellent overview of the ABRIS capabilities. Unfortunately my knowledge hasn't reached that level where I can find all those menus and sub-menus in the ABRIS system.. What you mentioned is exactly how I imagine it will be used in multi-player games though (or even single player I suppose). A good mission design will probably anticipate that we will try to probe for weaknesses, and I'd imagine those "weak" paths will also be reinforced with perhaps "trigger" events and things of that nature. The ability to mark those spots on the ABRIS will be invaluable to keeping an idea of what the big picture is. I'm really not very knowledgeable about the Mission Editor capabilities, but from what I've heard described thus far, I think we are in for some really challenging and unique missions. The hunter-killer aspect of Longbow 2 is alive and well in Black Shark..for sure! Thanks for the comments.. BeachAV8R

Feuerfalke Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I was just thinking about the role of the BlackShark and the bandwidth of missions available, with my thrilling LB2 sneaking-in-and-out-missions in the back of my mind: Will it be possible to achieve mission goals not by killing targets, but by finding and locating them while staying undetected yourself? I know it's less hollywood-style, but I think that would be pretty thrilling and a great touch for campaigns. GGTharos Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Yes, with some trickery on the mission designer's part, this is possible :) While right now 'some trickery' is required, keep in mind that the features in the ME are constantly expanding to make more and more mission types possible. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
