d0ppler Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I'm sorry if this question has been arisen before, but are there any chances that we will see rescue operations and freight operations with helicopters in the future? I know that the Black Shark is an attack chopper, but have you ever considered to add a non-violent chopper (like the Bell 412, CH-47, etc) with a campaign system? My passion is flying and operating helicopters, not killing/destroying/blowing up things. One of my favorite games of all times are SAR4 and Vietnam Med Evac :) A-10C, AV-8B, Ka-50, F-14B, F-16C, F-5E, F/A-18C, L-39, Mi-8, MiG-21, MiG-29, SA34, Spitfire, Su-27, Su-33, UH-1H
Yellonet Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Yes, there's a chance. A pretty good one at that, The Mi-24 is high on the list of aircraft that might be modeled and that chopper does have the possibility to freight cargo and personell. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5

Stratos Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I will love that!! Specially If we can insert troops too, that's why I want to design a Huey I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
Feuerfalke Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What started me into the multiplayer-business was Longbow2s ability to play cooperative. A friend flew the Apache and I followed in a Blackhawk. That would be really awesome with LockOns high-fidelity modeling. MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD

zakobi Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) Hat-trick!!! The russians can transport with the mi-24, so why not? ;) Edited July 18, 2008 by zakobi
Avimimus Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 S! I'm curious what helicopters the various CIS states actually use for SAR and CSAR. The Mi-24 would indeed be a good candidate, but the Mi-8 has its virtues? By the way, I'm still trying to complete a list of uses for the Mi-24 cargo bay (in case anyone has additions): 1) Empty 2) Various cargoes 3) A team of observers 4) A team of soldiers 5) Stretchers and medical equipment 6) One door gunner with a single gun 7) One door gunner with two guns (so they can switch sides without moving the gun) 8 )Two door gunners with two guns (ie. each gun operated by a separate crew member) 9) Empty with the armour plates removed in order to save weight (common in Afghanistan) 10) Extra ammunition for self reloading near the battlefield (again a practice from Afghanistan) 11) Additional fuel tanks to increase range P.S. I'm not trying to put any pressure or start a lobby regarding "DCS:Hindsight". Although, of course, I will admit that I would like to see door gunners, deployment of soldiers etc. I just find the multi-purpose aspect of this helicopter fascinating and I think it has too often been dismissed for not being an Apache...
AlphaOneSix Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 5) Stretchers and medical equipment The size of the cargo compartment on the Mi-24 always seems to be overestimated, as far as I'm concerned. It's only 2.5 by 1.5 meters (1.2 meters tall). For those of us not on the metric system, that's just 8 by 5 feet (4 feet tall). That would hold one stretcher and one attendant with medical gear, so you could only medevac 1 person at a time. In certain situations that may be fine, but not usually. Also, putting 8 troops in it seems a stretch to me, at least not if they have a full combat load.

Grimes Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 If I recall I saw a statement in regard to infantry and usage of helicopters. The infantry will not physically be able to board and exit helicopters. However with the trigger system in the mission editor you can fake it. IE, Helicopter hovers really close to the ground for a few seconds, infantry then spawn or disappear next to it to simulate troop extraction. As for door gunners, I don't know. I would really hope that is built in The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Although I can imagine four stretchers in there would be very tight!

That may be the case for Black Shark, but I imagine they are able to come up with something more advanced by the time DSC:Hind comes out. It's still at least a couple of years away.
Decerto Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Even incorparating the KA-50 with escort/insert missions would be cool. In NAM we Aussies used these http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-air-support/vietnam/gunships.htm to do the clearing of a LZ before the troops disembarked. It would be easy to make those sort of missions in the editor wouldn't it? Or a Blackhawk Down scenario where you cover a township while some Spetsnaz raid a high profile target. Anything to make you feel part of a overarching military structure needs to be implemented in this sim.
BBQ Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Decerto: yes, such missions could definately be created with the Mission Editor.

Stratos Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 What I know is the I sure buy everything ED have to produce from now on, I made it in the past to help Lomac development and I will do now! I want to fly that Hind, and a hifi Flanker will be amazing too I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!
- Piloto da Morte - Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 will be great if we see in future Hind doing mission like, rescue, transport troops, load and unload troops... in DCS.
