Highwayman-Ed Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 (edited) I've recently started flying the SU-25A for the first time since 1.02, and I've got to admit that I actually really like it. As a result of my new piloting habbits, I've started an open ended set of missions that I will work on as and when I have some down time. To add a twist, the missions are set in 1977 and depict a Russian invasion of Georgia in an effort to allow the regoin of Abkazia to rejoin what was then the Soviet Union. I highly recommend that you fly the SU-25A training missions prior to flying this first mission, as they will prove invaluable to anyone who is not familiar with the airframe. I've put the first mission in as a single and two player version of the mission (which I always recommend flying with a friend ;) ) and are packaged with modman. http://www.mediafire.com/?lmdv11na8xt I really would appreciate any feedback as this will help me build the ongoing missions. Edit : I use several mods whilst creating and testing these missions, and I highly recommend their use... Silent Warrior Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Well, I've downloaded it. :) Though I can't say with any certainty when I'll try it out. Being busy sucks.
ThunderChief Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Interresting idea to use the 1977 timeframe  I will test that missions ASAP
Ironhand Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Excellent "campaign" start mission. Nice mood and atmospheric--I like flying at that time of day. And the vanilla Su-25 is a fun bird to fly. Mustang Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 (edited) Fun, atmospheric and cool are the words to sum up this mission  Here are some screenshots of some of the sortie and some descriptions of the action :D Departing Maykop at dawn, passing 2x Mi-8's on rotation heading to waypoint 3 enroute to Sochi through the mountain range on arrival at sochi airbase, distant fires could be seen of the first stages of action by opposing ground units and arty now at the ingress point, i search for the first 3 reported units in the coastal town.....targets sighted, Kh-25ML away! several passes later, all 3 of the first units are shacked upon attacking the 2nd group, i encounter a Strela-1..... fortunately, it finds interest in my flares more than me now out of my Kh-25ML's, i fall back on my UB-32's, the Strela-1 is now on the receiving end boom! somehow, that ZSU-23-4 slipped my attention and was now making inself heard in the form of some nasty barrages of 23mm fire, he is however a bad aim and will now pay...... just as my RWR lights up i let him have it shack! unable to ascertain where any remaing ground units were, i took the decision to bug out back to maykop, this shot here showing the return back through the mountain range north touchdown! Highwayman-Ed Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Thanks for the reviews guys, glad to know that the missions are on the money so far. Mission 2 is in the final stages of tweaking and balancing, and should be ready for upload some time in the next 24 hours :) 1 Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Highwayman-Ed Posted August 1, 2008 Author Posted August 1, 2008 Mission 2 is up. 09:30 November 10th 1977. This mornings strike has proceeded well, and the Red Armys armour is rolling toward the airfield at Gudauta at an impressive rate. You are required to soften up defenses just beyond the town of Gagra where the Georgian ground forces are attempting to stand in the way of our Armour. Destroy any heavy armour you can find in the town, do not concern yourself with the light vehicles. Your attack run should begin at 09:50 from waypoint 4 at Anapa after your comrades engage any light air defences in your target area. http://www.mediafire.com/?bjduv8njmmo 1 Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Case Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 (edited) Kudos to Highwayman-Ed! X-man and I just flew the multiplayer version of first mission and the flight was pretty intense! Keeping visual on each other was not easy in these conditions and we went blind a couple of times and lost track of eachother between the other Su-25's and Su-17's. We focused on the solitary units, expecting them to be the SHORADs and while one of us ran it, the other kept an eye out for triple A and SAM launches. We evaded a couple of launches this way and managed to destroy our primary targets. When scouting the coast for secondary targets, the mission took another turn, as I lost an engine due to cannon fire from what proved to be an enemy Su-25. X-man joins the resulting turning fight and scores a hit with one of the R-60's (the other missed). We manage to get the bandit off my six so I can use my R-60's, but both miss as well. We end up in a gunzo fight where we are both on his six, but before we can kill him, our OSA's take him out. Due to all the adrenaline, I completely missed that I was rapidly losing fuel due to the damage, but succeed in making an emergency landing at Sochi while my remaining engine flamed out just before the threshold. Very nice and challenging mission Highwayman! S! Edited August 1, 2008 by Case Typo's 1 There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Highwayman-Ed Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 (edited) Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback. And I'm so glad that a Georgian SU-25 managed to get past the MIG-23's on CAP for one of you! In my testing this only happened once in over twenty test flights when the Georgian SU-25 managed to down both of the MIG-23's on CAP with his R-60M's and a SU-17 with guns whilst evading everything that was thrown at him! :notworthy: Thanks for the comment on the fuel Noti, I've toyed with this idea, but decided to leave the tanks on the default loadout as not everyones fuel management is as good as I know yours is ;) but for those of you that wish to try it, it is possible to do the missions all the way down to Gudauta and back to Majkop without the drop tanks if you keep an eye on the guages. I'm working on Mission #3 as we speak, but I'm aiming for a weekly release on a Fridays so that there are no big gaps between releases when I have too much work on! Sweet! One of our Mig-23's got killed by an Osa when they both tried to fly over Gudauta trying to gun the taxiing Georgian Su-25's. The remaining MiG loitered around the AB, evading the Osa's and waiting for the Frogs to take off. They did take off, but not as a pair, and the MiG-23 used all it's armament on the first Su-25 to take off, killing it. Then the second 25 killed the MiG with a headon R-60 shot. After that, the Frogfoot came to harras us :) Here's the ACMI: http://www.mediafire.com/?zifpvmyx1zl There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
tflash Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Very nice missions indeed! The atmosphere is great, and with this aircraft ... it is really immersive. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Highwayman-Ed Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 Given the similarities between the current real world conflict and my campaign series, I'm going to temporarily postpone it. I don't wish to offend anyone, and the missions are designed for entertainment value only. I hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the conflict. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7548715.stm Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Highwayman-Ed Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 (edited) I've lost focus on this, my work schedule has suddenly increased a great deal, and doesn't look like easing up for a good long time. I'll be travelling for all of the next month, so before I go, I'll post up part 3 as is. I'd test flown the mission several times, and a couple of the testers had given it a go with no major problems, but it wasn't complete...... 15:00 November 10th 1977 Despite the co-ordinated attacks against the Geogian amour, they seem to have had enough time to build fortified defenses across the river South East of Gagra, and have destroyed the bridges. Our armour is amphibious, so this poses no problems for them, but the southern river bank in mined and as soon our amour stopped to allow engineers to clear the mines, they came under sustained rocket attacks. Reports suggest that the rockets are being launched from the North, and the launchers can not be any further than 20 km. You are to locate and destroy these launchers so that our advance may continue. Here it is... http://www.mediafire.com/?jlxtdmvema4 Edited September 6, 2008 by Highwayman-Ed Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Yesterday I tried mission with Su-25 and must change my opinion about this plne, is even quite good, nice to fly, much easier control than 25T ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. zokier Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 are these missions for FC or vanilla lockon? Sadly my friend has only vanilla and it would be nice to fly these with him...
Highwayman-Ed Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 I designed these missions in FC1.12 and I'm not sure if there is anything in them that is specific to FC in them.
