If I'm getting my HARM terms right the ALIC in in the LAU-118 and is always present. Maybe HAS is direct interface with the missile but POS needs to program the thing for its mission. F-16 can have an item called ALIC.

Was he an F-4 WW pilot before 16s?

According to his book, his first operational F-16 unit was in Germany, and it was a composite wing consisting of F-4G and F-16 airframes. To train SEAD, he said he went up in his F-16 with an F-4G.

Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man.

My understanding is that you should be able to, in HAS mode, select the threat type you want to shoot by pressing the OSB on the weapon page that correlates to the SAM system you want to shoot. Then you put that SAM system in the HUD (because you are visually seeing it shoot), and fire the HARM. It's a no-lock HAS shot, known as a Slapshot. As opposed to a sniper shot, which uses POS or HTS data. You do this to shoot reactively against a SAM system when you don't have time to wait for HAS indications on the weapons page.

The foreign manual says that "RDY" shows up after handoff is completed which kinda suggests that launch is inhibited until handed off. The procedure listed makes no mention of launching other than after handoff. But maybe USAF is different.

This is the "Hunter/Killer" team used in the F-4G Wild Weasel era.  Originally, when the F-4G started taking over for the F-105G's, the USAF began pairing an F-4G with an F-4E carrying AGM-45 Shrikes and AGM-78 Standard ARMs in the early days, then AGM-88's later on.  The F-4G would seek out the SAM sites, and lure them into tracking the Wild Weasel.  They would give the target site to the F-4E, who would prosecute the attack and (hopefully) destroy or damage the radar.  When the F-4E Phantoms were retired, the F-16's took over the role of the killer in the team.

I worked on F-105G and F-4E and F-4G fire control radar systems at George AFB, California in the 1980's.  We were testing the early AGM-88 prototypes on the China Lake Navy ranges in the late 1980's, as well as on Crow Range in the Philippines.  Fun times.

What is TDOA?

Time Difference of Arrival. The short explanation is that it's a geolocation method by using the time at which signals are received compared to the position of the receivers to help more accurately estimate the emitter's position.

This might sound like a very dumb question, but does the ESM system on F-4G (APR47) and F-16CJ (ASQ-213) let the pilot know the threat is below or above them? (aka knowing the emitter elevation)

Does the RWR screen get messed up if the pilot spin his aircraft to the side? (his main wing is perpendicular to the ground)

@garrya According to Starbaby (ex F4G EWO and F15E WSO) in the F4G system could also estimate emitter elevation and could even be used for enhancing SA in air to air combat

thank you
