With dinamical birds around it, nests, eggs and maybe squirrels. XD

No kidding. :)

Since you can now walk the pilot after ejecting, ED is modeling the various deadly wildlife present in the Caucasus region. Along with angry villagers, the player will now have to battle insects, reptiles, birds and, when ejecting over water, man-eating fish. The new campaign system will now include long-term modeling of the effects of influenza, malaria and other illnesses on the pilot's performance and fatigue levels. Also, a dynamic model of seasonal animal migration is being implemented for a realistic representation of the various threats posed to the pilot by the animal kingdom throughout the different parts of the year.

Yeah, would it not be possible to make some kind of AI view blocker for the trees? I dont know much of these things, but a transparant AI view blocker surrounding the forests that doesnt start at the tops of the trees but a little bit down and to the ground or somewhere in between. Just so that we can dive behind it and AI stop shooting.

I know i will dive down when some Abrams start popping at me from a field where i have a forest between me and that field of pure instinct. And when i die i will go: "right..." :)

Cmon guys. It must be possible? Skip the colliding for now, but view block?

In regards to trees - next engine, as mentioned previously. Making trees solid is just too impractical in the current engine.

I've thought about something like that, but it's just that with the current engine the number of objects is CPU intensive. They might not be rendered, but the collision data and some other things must still be calculated, and with the current tremendously unoptimized way of handling objects that would be killing the performance.

I got used to fly thru trees in LOFC so same thing doesn't bother me in BS.

But yeah, trees as LOS obstacles for AAA and MANPADS are welcome in the future!

I've an idea maybe the ground troops have an handicap in the eyes.

example the couldnt see and attack an air object if fly under 10 meters

ok you can't collide with a tree but they cant fire you!

So, under ten meters you would be invulnerable?? Nah, that would be worse than infantry spotting you through the trees. I'm just gonna use terrain as cover until the next engine comes out!

This is my concern: The Helicopter's POV (White Arrow) is blocked by the Tree, since we - as the humans playing the game can't see "through" it we need to hover HIGHER than the terrain masking to see over it.

The Tank's POV, however disregards the tree, thus can see us clear as day when hovering above the hill's terrain masking.

Thus if we turn off the trees - we can hover just above the hill and be relatively safe (compared to as high as we had to be before hand).

Since we can turn off trees all-together this is not a problem! It just makes the game look less visually appealing.

Actually, IIRC, tanks are more likely to see a heli hiding behind a treeline than the other way around - just something I heard from a tanker a while ago, I don't know how accurate this is.

If you hover close enough to an armoured column for the main guns to be in range, chances are you're going to do the münchhausen whether you can see them or not.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

That would be a shame since trees look damn awesome in BS.

IIRC, for a hovering heli 'in range' could be as far as 4km! Lot probability of 1-st round hit, but then again, are you just going to sit there if you see a tank fire on you? And what if its some sort of hive or fuzed round ... !!!

Though I don't think most MBTs come with such - on the other hand, check out the CV9040C's 3P ammo ...

Should he speak in that threatening whispering voice like the bold guy on Discovery Channel? You know.. the one that was in service and lost his grammar in action :D

Perhaps they should swap the cheesy soundtrack for starwars Imperial march or whatever it's called, it'd relate the serious nature of the product better maybe? :P
