Hulkbust44 Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 A swiming BMP cannot be detected by the sea radar bmp_AG_SEA.trkWell, how do we know it's incorrect?A BMP has a *very* small RCS compared to even a small naval vessel. With all the returns you would get from the surface of the water with any wind, I'd say it's probably near impossible to see a BMP on water outside of 5 miles, if at all. Topper81 Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 (edited) I also placed a static ship on land (just for testing the logic) and it can be detected by the sea radar. So for me it looks like the "logic" is not corect to decide if an object can be detected by the sea radar or not. It should not depend just on the type "ship"... but more if an object (any kind) is in the sea or not. However, if it's true that a sea radar cannot detect smaller objects at father distances it should be possible to detect a BMP inside 5 miles or what ever Edited April 18, 2021 by Topper81 1

Water is know to absorb radar wave and it is know that satellite rely on that to scan huge water area since anything (well okay, may be not you're plastic Craftman fishing boat ;))that float would make a radar return. If we use this as a ref, we can clearly see all the radar dots in the water, so we could assume that the hornet radar would also as it is closer. It might not detect a ship in some coastal condition, but if there is enough surrounding water around the vehicle, it should pick it up like it would pick up a plane in a clear sky. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted April 23, 2021 ED Team Posted April 23, 2021 a ship is very different to a amphibious vehicle, in some cases only the top half and turret are seen, RCS will be a lot smaller. I am still looking into it. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing?
