Vekkinho Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 ARH (Active radar homing missiles) = Fox 3 SARH (Semi active radar homing missiles) = Fox 1 IR (infra red missiles) = Fox 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
zokier Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Next question ofcourse is whats the brevity codes in russia(n)? :) fyi theres a Field Manual floating around in internets with usaf brevity codes.
Kuky Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 R-27ET would be Fox4 (Long Range IR) 2 No longer active in DCS...
Frostie Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Vikhrs make for a better Fox4.:) "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 51st PVO "BISONS" Fastest MiG pilot in the world - TCR'10 https://100kiap.org
GGTharos Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 No, still Fox 2. If you're shooting it far away, 'Fox 2 long' will do. :) R-27ET would be Fox4 (Long Range IR) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Case Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 No, still Fox 2. If you're shooting it far away, 'Fox 2 long' will do. :)My regular Fox 2's (Archers and Sidewinders) are usually accompanied with '2 is merged!', 'splash bandit', 'I'm down' or 'ejecting', and too much excessive language :music_whistling: There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
GGTharos Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 You could always roll that into official brevity :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Just dont get caught in the street caling fox, you might be missinterpreted :D .
Case Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Just dont get caught in the street caling fox, you might be missinterpreted :DAs long as they don't misinterpret "I'm merged" There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
Boberro Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 What are callnames for Ground missiles or bombs? Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
GGTharos Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Rifle for mavericks, magnum for HARMs, and 'weapon away' otherwise. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Case Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 For a bomb drop you call 'pickle'. Converting GG's calls to Russian weapons, 'magnum' for Kh-25MPU, Kh-58 and 'rifle' for Vikhr's, Kh-29T/L, Kh-25ML and S-25L. I'm not sure if firing rockets has its own call, but using guns is called out with 'guns, guns'. There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
RedTiger Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Rifle for mavericks, magnum for HARMs, and 'weapon away' otherwise. What about "rockeye" for Mk-20s? You hear that all the time in Falcon. Is that one legit? Kinda like saying "Sparrow" or "Sidewinder", isn't it?
GGTharos Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 That I don't know, I haven't dug quite as deep into A2G brevity ... the best way to find out is to try and find comm tapes or transcripts :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

RvEYoda Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 yes. Fox 4 is not used for IR missiles :P S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
- Piloto da Morte - Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 (edited) Why is called Fox?? and not Cat, Dog, rat etc?? Maybe can be called RAT 1 RAT 2 RAT 3 :) Edited September 26, 2008 by -= Piloto da Morte =- fixing

RedTiger Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Because foxes chase chickens ;) ...which is why I really like the term "pitbull". Its as if that little fox suddenly smells blood, you let him off the leash and he goes for the throat.

IvanK Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) And Tally Ho comes (believe it or not) from Arabic Fox hunting "Tally" in that practice meant I see the Fox :) So Fighter aviation is full of Fox related trivia. Before the advent of Aim120s etc Fox 3 meant Guns kill ... certainly in Commonwealth Air Forces. Before the use of Fox designations it was even more mundane the terms were "Mission Accomplished" abbreviated to "MA" "MA Primary" = Semi Active Kill "MA Secondary"= IR Kill "MA Tertiary" = Guns kill Edited September 27, 2008 by IvanK
