Pilotasso Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Ok I am bored. So I picked up UT3 and MSF X this weekend. I was curious about the F-18 implementation. It includes SP1 and 2. I was not expecting the brilliant graphics some screenshots show because Im on DX9 but damn... the SIM just looks so poor. The F-18 flies like a missile getting to 900miles an hour at low altitude yet everything looks so slow outside, and the point of view moves arround as if you head stands on a rubber neck. So much so it goes through the ejection seat during afterburn and I cant see anything...throttle back and it gets glued on the HUD forcing me to constantly adjust point of view. Landscape textures are damn POOR...I wonder if DX10 shaders changes all this hmmmm, dont think so. It takes SO DAMN LONG TO LOAD...I checked the task manager to check on the system loading this SIM was taking... a mere 500Mb, less than LOMAC and less than UT3 yet it takes 10 times as much to load WTF... CPU usage on 90% on a quad core and FPS arrund 17 and 27FPS over cities...OMG... for this low quality, is this justifiable?! F-18 freezes in midair after I had supossedly over G'ed it... WTH... isnt it a fly by wire aircraft? lol and when is Microshaft going to stop being so wuss to the point of not adding realistic damage efects on aircraft? .
A.S Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 (edited) accel F-18 is the worst FM i have ever seen and flown...but there are still good models out there and FSX is great tool used from its good site. ....just the screen is shaking or bouncing up down (lockon) doesnt make the flight model realistic :PPPP fsx needs a good hand (tweaks etc etc etc..mods...etc etc..) then its really a good self-teaching tool.... SUBS17 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 The Hornets positive side is the carrier approach and weight/AoA is quite well done. On the negative is the lack of stores, incomplete rampstart and the lack of MP code for carrier ops.(WTF were they thinking the AI carrier travels from port to port and yet invisible to other players MP and no TACAN/ILS) Also on the negative is the FBW is practically non-existant it practically flys like the SU27 in LO requiring constant trim. So much potential yet not enough attention to details. BTW it still has an awesome pit though. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

hitman Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 DX10 isnt modelled correctly in FSX Accelleration...you have forever shimmering runways with DX10 being rendered. Wait till that latest realism pack comes thru. That looks promising.

Vekkinho Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 IMHO FS-X in general is a great disappointment! Too expensive, modules and addons too! No bang for buck at all! IMHO! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SUBS17 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Actually the stock FSX is quite good but its main drawbacks is the lack of aircombat and lack of MP for the carrier Ops. The potential is there but the developers chose not to implement it properly. FSXs missions are quite entertaining and are alot of fun. The FSX tutorials are also quite good and are quite in depth it covers nearly everything to do with flying light aircraft. The other thing I like is the racing but I'd like to try that one day in DX10 with a faster PC as it can be a pain on slower PCs. Another positive is the logbook and the rewards which are quite cool what FSX needs though is the ability for other people to read them in MP like Falcon. Another big problem with FSX is it uses Gamespy for MP which is really bad and has a tendency to think you are still logged on when in fact you are just starting a MP session and so it kicks you off.(What were they thinking) [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 IF I could get the FAA out of the office, they could come down and certify my computer for ground training. FSX allows you to do just that.
Pilotasso Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 Being playing with this SIM, after a few tweaks I got some of the things improved. I have high settings and getting 40 FPS in any given area, while over large cities I have 17FPS. Being playing with the EH101 merlin these past days. Boy it IS hard to land that sucker where I want... .

Pilotasso Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 MFSX will destroy any system in exitence and it still sucks. Thats the sad reality. As for the others thx for the suggestions. .
hitman Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) Works fine on mine...except over large cities. I get decent fps in SLi mode and Im not griping about it. You can try Xplane 9 and get decent avionics and terrain, but your aircraft is gonna look like a pile of dog sh1t. And believe it or not, FSX has accurate landscapes, more accurate than Xplane. Xplanes terrain looks photorealistic, and it better be photorealistic for 60gbs on an install! Only thing is, with all them buildings in Xplane, I dont get a drop in fps, but I get a drop in a sensation of speed, and my average fps is around 40. Nice terrain, crappy cockpit Edited October 15, 2008 by hitman

hitman Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I get damn good fps now that the lastest drivers came out for Nvidia. Its actually playable in large cities now!

hitman Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 That helis been pissing me off since I got the addon last year! Need to find a way to keep the heli from going side to side in a stable hover... Is there a way to control the collective, pitch and throttle on separate axis'? I saw that video the other day...didnt help out a bit.
SUBS17 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Yes its possible although I don't bother messing with the pitch I just leave it open and operate the throttle. Have you tried the R22 mission where you have to land on the ship, absolute nightmare whoever designed that mission is evil:lol:. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 You mean the yacht that keeps turning on you? I said fcuk it and moved on to the next mission. Funny thing...I have yet to finish any of the EH101 missions except for the missions that doesnt use the cable system. There HAS to be a way to use all 3 controls to move that thing better...

hitman Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 (edited) I dunno...it is fairly simple to control, just when you hear the pitch of the engine change, the aircraft tail rotors turn the heli away from the line of flight. It does this automatically. Id swear this aircraft needs yaw dampers if I didnt know better. edit: Played it again tonight, it is virtually impossible to fly that aircraft in a straight line or hover it in 1 place for anything longer than a few seconds. Yeah the problem with the EH101 is that IRL it has FBW and it doesn't in FSX so it flys more like a large R22. You can get autopilot for the EH101 but I never could get it to work IRL it also has autohover which would make most of those missions easy if it had that. BTW the yacht is one of the most frustrating missions I've beaten all of FSX delux and accelerations missions except the antennae package. The 2nd package is quite difficult to pick up. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

I see the button for the hover, but seems like I cant get the thing to press. Um...unless its not the correct button Im pressing, where is this button located? I want to say its on the right side of the center console...am I correct? The buttom Im referring to is above the heading select on the navigation console... As for that tutorial with the R22, I need to tweak my rudder pedals somewhat, because this thing likes to twist around on me. Seems like I cant get it to fly straight and level without it wanting to swing from side to side.
rattler Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) hi,guy's: I am interested to know if anyone has a profile for the F18 in the acceleration pack. I just got FSX gold edition with the acceleration pack but I am having problems with programming the X52 joystick. A profile would be nice if someone would like to share. In the mean time I am still trying to figure out the game buttons versus the joystick buttons. Poor info on this and everything is hard to fly. Helicopters worse. Wave all over the place. I guess a long road ahead getting to understanding the setup procedures. Thanks for any help at all. Edited October 22, 2008 by rattler
