Hi Hornet fans

I am not sure if I do something wrong during the start procedure or if this might be a bug, but it hasn`t occured one or two patches prior.

When starting up a cold and dark Hornet, after the engine spool up I retract the flaps to upper position and do the BIT failure testing in the "FCS-MC Go" menu screen of the right screen. This is done by pressing Y (or on my keyboard Z) and pressing the upper left button next to the screen.

The Hornet does some testing of ailerons and elevators afterwards for a few seconds, everything is allright the rudders align correctly.

But as soon as I lower the flaps to starting position and give the Hornet a little thrust to roll, a "Flight Controls Flight Controls!" warning sound pops up and the FCES warning light illuminates on the master caution light panel.

The Hornet has never done this before and was always ready to start - therefore I assume this might be a bug.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug, the rudders are not going into a centered position anymore and the FCES warning light stays on no matter how often I repeat the FCS-MC BIT self-test.

The BIT test doesn't clear the FCS transient malfunctions, you have to press and hold the FCS Reset button until the 'RSET' advisory appears on the advisory line. FCS Reset should be performed after starting the engines as-per the NATOPS. FCS BIT should be performed after Reset.

Thanks for the tips 🙂

But unfortunately the Hornet still always fails the FCES BIT test, and I never before had this problem when doing a start-up procedure, and she always goes into this strange rudder-position.

Either something is now different (maybe one step extra to do after a patch for more complexity to enhance cockpit realism) in the start-up procedure, or I am doing something wrong....

I guess it`s time to study the handbook and watch some cockpit tutorial vids on YouTube, it`s probably a mistake I do when starting her up.

Yeah the rudder toed in that is correct.

For the BIT failure, are you pressing OSB PB 5 twice (when BIT format is on right DDI) while holding the FCS BIT consent switch? The make sure you click the FCS BIT switch back down.

Yes it was my mistake not pressing the FCS reset button, and I have never noticed that both rudders leading inwards like a V are part of an air-brake system helping to slow the plane down when the flaps are released half or full.

The rudder positions have nothing to do with the FCES or with FCES warnings - the rudders are always in this position when the flaps are out. One awesome realistic detail more on the F-18! 🙂

(I always start and land from cockpit view that`s why I have never noticed this rudder detail.)

Not sure if it causes the warning, but I see your trim isn't set for Takeoff, on the FCS page, it shows stab 2, it should be 12 I believe for land and 16/17/19 (dependant on weight) for CV. Make sure you press the little middle button on the trim dial just to the left of the FCS Reset button.

When I'm starting up, I put my flaps up, press FCS Reset, do the BIT test, once its done, drop flaps to half and hit T/O Trim.
