TROOPS IN CONTACT! (V10 released, now on github)

I intentionally left this part for the end user to do. Sort of like I'm providing the engine and chassis, while you bring the wheels and pick the paint color.

Just open it in the mission editor and add aircraft set up how you like them.  Or put an aircraft carrier there with hornets 'n tomcats if that's what you dig. 🙂

Would it be possible to create/spawn moving ground targets somehow?

Yes, but that doesn't really fit the "we're under heavy fire and need help right now" scenario that I'm going for here.

As it is now when a "heavy" group spawns, they do move/relocate to a notionally better position to fire from.

An "enemies approaching from the ..East.." scenario, would allow the player(s) to get there in time, to avoid allied losses.

It would also add some more variation

I suppose, but that would increase the size to add all new audio tracks and such.  

 

There's lots of stuff possible but I had to sort of "pick a horse, and ride it." 🙃

 

What might be easier to do is to randomly spawn a group that's some distance away and have them advance.  Sometimes they'll be there, sometimes they won't.

Couple of questions, hope you can help:

- How can I edit the mission to start from Kutaisi on a Georgian Hind and get the targets on Abkhazia?

- Is possible to fly for Russia somehow?

Sure, glad you are enjoying it!

 

Put Russia in the blue coalition.

 

The script is set up such that the friendlies are blue and the enemies are red, but which countries are which is still up to you if it matters.

 

And of course you can add any aircraft with any skin. wherever you like.

 

To move the zone where the TIC takes place, just move the big TIC rectangle zone, and all of the little round zones inside it to a different place, then move the map decorations to match if you like.

@Stratos You can add any aircraft you want.  Fixed or Rotary wing.

 

@MK84 Hell yes it does!  If you have multiple aircraft in one area, the contact will be in that area. If you have aircraft in TWO areas, the contact could appear in either one.

Got it working! Man I'm so happy with this missions, I'm flying both of them, with different planes and helicopters. Can I request a Persian Gulf one pretty please? Is the map we have more similar to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thanks for letting me know that the integration went well. I really wanted to hear about a successful example of that.  

Looking forward and planning version 4, I'm considering changing to a five line format for the transmissions. Minor, but it's a small step toward realism so why not.

I haven't tried this yet but this looks like it'll help a ton to make some interesting helo ops. Interestingly will inserting troops work to help compete the objective? Also maybe if the friendlies get too roughed up we could extract them? I've been planning on making some Vietnam ops and ill definitely be checking this out!

I'm in an all RW squadron so yes, this was built with helos in mind for sure.  

Under the hood.... the friendlies are immortal, and don't shoot back. This is by design, because most of the time one side will wipe the other out way before you get there. There are some statics used to create the appearance of damage and casualties. Those do get shot at, and they explode and burn.

Yes, absolutely - if you are carrying CTLD or similar troops and insert them (e.g. and use CA to vector them accordingly), they will definitely either help, or wind up getting themselves hopelessly slaughtered thanks to the shitty infantry AI right now. 

Adding a CASEVAC based on a weighted randomness would be a neat feature. I could let a trigger control that via a flag, so you could adjust the percentage from 0% (never happens) to 100% (every time), so the script never needs touching.

Come back once you've tried it out!

May I suggest a change to the Light/Heavy mechanics? Instead of having the pilot choose heavy or light for each engagement, have a "difficult setting" somewhere and only one call for TIC. Also, if the difficult setting is set to heavy, allow light and heavy AAA randomly, to add a level of uncertainty regarding the opposition. If the air defense types could be increased to 3 (light, medium and heavy), then that randomness would work even better. Great framework so far!
