SuperKungFu Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 You could play at a lower setting if you so wish. But most people want the full realism. Personally i enjoy it being difficult, gives you a challenge. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
masonator Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 You could play at a lower setting if you so wish. But most people want the full realism. Personally i enjoy it being difficult, gives you a challenge. I do too, but this is really hard. I *want* to be good at it, but I'm not sure if I will be able to or not. I've spent all evening just trying to take off and land, and I'm nowhere near good enough at either (especially landing). Mase
GGTharos Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 It takes practice. First of all, do not take off or land in automatic modes. Engage the flight director before taking off - that will be your best best. Second, READ THE MANUAL. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
tusler Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Am I the only one that finds this game unbelievable difficult? Part of the problem is not being able to understand warnings and go through the proper training tutorials, just have fun until the english version comes out and then we will have a fighting chance at mastering this machine.:pilotfly: Ask Jesus for Forgiveness before you takeoff :pilotfly:! Cosmo81 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Am I the only one that finds this game unbelievable difficult? I learned a lot just by watching the producers notes videos and reading from the manual, start by watching the videos first, and then go over the key commands, also read up on the manual. Also if landings and takeoffs are bothering you, skip them and then come back to it later, i didnt know how to land either at first but came back to it, again watch the videos, it helps a ton.
hitman Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I just jumped in and started playing with stuff. I crashed a lot but hey...gotta cut your teeth somehow. I dont believe in reading manuals, but if it cant be helped, I read the manual first THEN ask questions later.
leonsilver Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Am I the only one that finds this game unbelievable difficult? No.This a very good and realistic game!I love it.! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Slayer Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Am I the only one that finds this game unbelievable difficult? We are all going through the learning curve bro....enjoy it. Get online hook up with some people on ventrilo or teamspeak and learn together. If the whole game was as easy as arcade mode the whole time youd be bored of it in a month and put it on the shelf. The thing is when you start to get good at it you really feel like you accomplished something( at least I do) and thats half the fun of the game. :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System Specs Intel I7-3930K, Asrock EXTREME9, EVGA TITAN, Mushkin Chronos SSD, 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series 2133, TM Warthog and MFD's, Saitek Proflight Combat pedals, TrackIR 5 + TrackClip PRO, Windows 7 x64, 3-Asus VS2248H-P monitors, Thermaltake Level 10 GT, Obutto cockpit

ED Team Groove Posted November 25, 2008 ED Team Posted November 25, 2008 Masonator, that's good news! It will be more rewarding when you master it. Can you describe your problems more in detail or give us a track? We will help you, no worries :) Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Maverick-GER- Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Am I the only one that finds this game unbelievable difficult? Well masonator if you want to i can help you out a bit and teach you a thing or two. That's actually the most fun in DCS for me now to learn flying the shark and using its systems right, together with other people . So whenever you want to fly a round, just drop me a PM and maybe we can arrange some practice flights :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) Engage the flight director before taking off - that will be your best best. Second, READ THE MANUAL. ;) Why not out of curiosity? I use them, bring the heli to a hover and creep forward until I'm over the landing pad, disengage altitude hold, then use the collective to slowly descend. Is the flight director the little blue button thats next to the 4 AP mode buttons? What does it do? Maverick-GER- Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 yes it is. And what it does ... here a little quote out of the manual: Flight Director Control When in flight director mode, the task of the pilot is to maintain the angular position of the helicopter with the cyclic and the altitude with the collective by using the directors indicated on the HUD and ADI. This mode is most often used instead of automatic enroute flight. To disengage the automatic mode and enable director control, it is necessary to press the “ДИР УПР” (FLT DIR) push-light on the Autopilot panel. By disengaging automatic control, the automatic angular stabilization is disabled but damping remains for all channels. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) nemises Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 its basically manual autopilot 8) .. the route mode autopilot cues appear in the HUD, and the auto pilot assitants disengage (though the stabalisation functions remain on)...you then manually follow the HUD cue's to correctly fly the chopper as though it were in route mode with all pilot assistants on. Probably a good way to learn how to correctly manipulate the shark in a turn for eg actually .. I might also give it a go tonight.
masonator Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Ok, so I've been practicing a lot, and I'm getting better. I can now navigate between a 4-point waypoint route around the airfield, and I'm getting better at transitioning to a stop/landing. I can put her down on tarmac now...I'm not super precise with location, but I think rubber side down on the black stuff is a good start. I've also started some fun stuff...like coming to a hover behind a hill/building, engaging autohover, and then popping up in a mock pop-up engagement. It's hella fun. I think my early frustration was that I didn't understand how to use the trim system, and the manual doesn't really do a great job of explaining it in lay-person speak. Now that I've got the hang of it (thank you cntrl-enter!!!), flight is getting a lot smoother. Thanks for the advice all. -M
GGTharos Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Excellent, there you go :) Please also read the FAQ's as well, they explains some additional things in depth. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
masonator Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Excellent, there you go :) Please also read the FAQ's as well, they explains some additional things in depth. Yup, have been reading them all. I've decided that the absolute key to everything is: a) understanding the blue buttons, and b) trimming c) more trimming
GGTharos Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I believe that would have you doing the 'flight' part rather well soon :) Also keep in mind the influences a change in collective causes for example (ie. yaw here or there, nose dip, etc) ... try not to overspeed the rotors, the engine, or fly too fast. The helicopter issues warnings to help you survive: Heed them :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
multiviper Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 all i know is i have cost Russia at least 1 trillion dollars in helicopters over the past 3 weeks. at this point i feel lucky if i am airborne for 30 minutes... but those 30 minutes are fun as heck... therion_prime Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I actually dont find it that difficult, but I've been flying the FSX choppers (the Bell mainly) as a training for BS before it was released. That DID actually help a LOT. The second biggest help with flying the BS is a homebuilt long centerstick I made out of an old Cougar with hall-sensors from a defunct X52. It has no self centering but is dampened using RC-car hydraulic dampeners, so there's almost no need for trimming. I can tell you that flying with this stick is SO much easier than with my X52Pro.
