I recently reinstalled open beta and helios. When I uninstalled open beta I deleted all folders associated with it including the saved games folder. When I reinstalled open beta it installed files into user\me\documents\my games instead of saved games (i had recreated the folder).

Helios looks for the Saved Games folder so it doesn't interact with DCS.

Is there a way to point DCS to create files and folders in Saved Games instead of My Games?

Did you delete the DCS folders in Saved Games? Or the WHOLE Saved Games folder?
If the latter you need to search for how to restore your Saved Games folder, as it is a Windows "System Folder", and you should be good to go.

Well thanks. I tried recreating by using a backup of the drive and recovering the folder. Than worked and it had the icon that windows assigned to it. I assumed it had worked. But when I installed DCS I got the same thing hwere it installed to my games.

I forgot about the attributes. I assumed that the attributes had went with it when I recovered it. I'll take a look at the actual attributes and make sure they are correct.

Thanks a lot

Well I used powershell to change the attributes of the saved games folder. However when I reinstalled open beta it still save it to My Games. I'm at a loss now. The only way I can think is to somehow either change the director for DCS or the directory for helios. Neither program gives you that option

The work around is to move the Monitor setup folder from helios to the My Games and also the export script from saved games to my games. It works but has to be done every time you change an aircraft

So I will keep looking but have little hope.

Thanks for your help

Doug

Please attach your dcs.log.

It may have records similar to:

Can't get 'Saved Games'
Failed to open '%USERPROFILE%\\Saved Games', trying to use 'MyDocuments\\My Games'
Successfully opened 'MyDocuments\\My Games'

After an almost 8 year hiatus, I recently re-installed DCS World on my PC.  While looking at some file stuff related to DCS, I noticed that my “Saved Files\DCS” folder was installed in “….\Documents\My Games” as noted above.  I’ve tried to figure a way to get this changed to “F:\Users\Roger\Saved Games” which included moving the DCS folder and putting in a shortcut, but it hasn’t worked.  If fact, when I reran DCS, it re-created the DCS folders again in “…\Documents\My Games” again.  I do have a “C:\Users\Roger\Saved Games, and an F:\User\Roger\Saved Games\DCS” folders.

How can I get this resolved?  Please help.

Have yall who have the problem checked the target save location by right clicking the Saved Games folder, clicking Properties, then clicking the Location tab and verifying that the location is 'C:\Users\YourProfileName\Saved Games'? You can click the Restore Default Button to reset it.

Solved.

First, neither of my “Saved Games” folders had a “Location” tab under Properties. Researching this I found that no Location tab indicates the two folders I had were your everyday folders - not SYSTEM folders.  Since they contained nothing, I deleted them.  I then scanned the Registry to ensure there were no hard links to a “Saved Games” folder locations.

Second, I visited this site (https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23504-restore-default-location-personal-folders-windows-10-a.html) and downloaded ALL the *.bat files on this page (for future use if needed).  I then ran the *.bat file to create the “Saved Games” folder, and verified that was successful.

I then restarted DCS which kicked off the creation of a new DCS folder in the Saved Games location.  Verified this as well.

Lastly, ran DCS and did a training lesson with a save track option at the debriefing.  Exited the game and looked in “….\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks” to verify saved track.
Finally, reviewed the DCS.log file and verified that the Saved Games folder was found successfully.

Hope this helps any future users with this problem.

I'd love to help, but you need to describe your problem in more detail, or if you could attach your dcs.log file so that I can get more clues about how your dcs is set up.

Hi there,

Many thanks for your offer to assist, much appreciated, okay so here what has happened :-

On my back up computer I have windows 10 on 😄 drive and DSC open Beta on separate ssd drive. Simple installation for testing.

Did a reinstall of DCS Open Beta this week due to a download issue to find that my saved games folder was not in the normal location users/kc/saved games and nowhere to be found,

but there was the contents of the saved games folder in 😄 drive/documents/my games/DCS Beta folder !!!

I can update the config file with new settings but no installed mods will show up in game.  I want to get the saved games folder back to where it should be.

What do you think ???

Ok, seems that for some reason your /saved games/ folder was moved or deleted. Since it is a special windows folder, you can’t re-create it like a normal folder. Download the attached .bat file, run the .bat file.

It is possible that Windows will try to "protect" you and refuse to run this .bat file, inthat case follow this tutorial to unblock the file:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5357-unblock-file-windows-10-a.html

You will now notice your screen temporarily go black as a command prompt opens and closes as explorer is restarted to apply the registry changes.

Now check that your /saved games/ folder is re-created. Run DCS, it should create its folder anew. Exit DCS and copy the contents of the folder at /documents/my games/ onto the /saved games/dcs.openbeta/ folder, to avoid having to reconfigure DCS from scratch.

OK, I hope it works as described .. I haven't actually tested it myself, since I've never managed to delete my Saved Games folder 🙂
