See manual p. 2-101

“ОБЗ – ОТКЛ” (Helmet-Mounted Sight (HMS) / night vision goggle system power – OFF) switch. This switch allows you to either enable the HMS or NVG systems. These can be interchanged when you are on the ground and in radio contact with the ground crew. Returning the switch to the down position turns them off. [H]

You have to request the NVGs from the ground crew first.

Remember that the PDF manual have a "search" function. Very easy to obtain info about anything. ;)

I must be daft or something. I select NVG from the maintenance menu (although that shouldn't be necessary) and then press 'h' but nothing happens. What have I missed?

[EDIT]

Seems I missed to turn up the RPM. I was sitting on the ramp with all systems running and RPM at idle. When I turned RPM up to auto NVG came alive. I didn't see that relation anywhere in the manual but I have to admit not having read it all yet.

I must say, though, other than the world becomes somewhat "greener" with NVG active I can't really see much in the dark. Is there some way to increase the NVG effect?

helicopter must be running at ready take off , to power up the sub systems onboard.

or ask ground crew while on ground to enable external ac/dc...... power to the aircraft.

ground crew power can also be used for checking electrical systems when engines are not running.

Yes, but all systeme where running. I usually set up the 'copter from the cold n' dark configuration to make sure it gets configured according to the task. I do realize the NVG needs power and when I tried to turn it on batteries where on, engines where running (at idle) and generators where engaged. I flipped the helmet mounted system on and off several times (toggled the 'H' key) with no effect. Then I just gave up, leaving it in the ON setting and increased RPM to AUTOMATIC for take off. That made the NVG come alive automatically.

Now I just need to figure out how to increase the NVG effect. Right now it's very dim and make little or no difference to not using it at all.

When your chopper is running, make sure you have switched your radio to Ground Crew before you ask for NGV installation, otherwise they won't read you. Like this:

NVG's, like a few other systems, require the AC generators to be running. The do not work when you are at idle power.
