Lineaxe Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Hi , When I completely kill off a ship it generates a message saying it is completely destroyed . The ship burns for a bit and then leaves a Half sunk skeleton in the shipping lanes. They cause me problems since Harpoons seem to get attracted to them and won't point at live shipping. They crowd the shipping lanes (and stop some ships I am sure). I want to get rid of these objects , whatever they are, where ever they are , I want them to sink to the bottom of the cyber ocean. Does anyone know how I can kill them outa the database or whatever method I can use ? Since the ship respawns and moves about elsewhere how can I even find the name of this "Half sunken" object so I can delete it?
silverdevil Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 i am sure it is unintentional but would be accurate to real life. you sink a ship and it takes a long time to get it out of the way. even more so in an active war zone. maybe it takes time in the sim for the wreck to disappear. honestly i don't know. 1 AKA_SilverDevil Join AKA Wardogs Email Address My YouTube “The MIGS came up, the MIGS were aggressive, we tangled, they lost.” - Robin Olds - An American fighter pilot. Dragon1-1 Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 It actually depends on where exactly the hit was, and what kind of ship. Torpedoes can put the ship under in minutes. Harpoons, I don't know, but unless you hit below waterline, it'll probably remain afloat for a while. And yes, it'll be visible on radar. Better get used to the fact that killing the target doesn't cause it to vanish from existence IRL. 3
Lineaxe Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 I see. Now when I test my missions I do test them for 14 hrs to 24 hrs and the ships don't seem to sink in that time period. I think most missions are not meant to run that long, but in Chop-U there we use the 'mooses' scoring system and respawn ships. I guess we can only harpoon a couple then and switch back to GBU's for the rest of the mission.
near_blind Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 How deep is the water? Ships won't "sink" unless there's enough depth for water to cover the highest point if the model. If they are destroyed in shallow water it's possible to settle on the bottom without hitting that threshold and remain there indefinitely.

Yes, but most ships (attack ships especially) should list when hitting the bottom. This would help knowing if they are neutralized or not. This has been requested internally. 1 ---
near_blind Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 That, with maybe reducing or eliminating their RCS / attractiveness to radar guided cruise missiles would be a pretty good change.
Flappie Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 You mean dead ship units still emit radiations? ---
Flappie Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 @near_blind I did a quick test: it seems ships stop emitting once they are dead. If you find a counterexample, please attach a track. Ticonderoga blows up - seen from a SEAD Su-25T.trk ---

I meant that if a ship is foundering in it's sinking animation, ideally it would have less of an RCS and be less attractive to incoming radar guided antishipping missiles. No bug, just a suggestion for the future.
Lineaxe Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) yes ,this is another fascinating area . Now I would be happy to send along a group of bombers that would completely sink the wreckage from the map. this would 1) take it out of the shipping lanes so it does not affect the traffic 2) take it off the Harpoons target list ,a large wreckage attracts them like flies to honey 3) remove it from the game database I would assume 4) make alot of aspects of the game go faster of course 5) other good things too wild to imagine In order to make this happen , I would get the coordinates of the wreckage first I guess and bombs away & then DCS can remove it from the database (Just a thought anyhow) Edited March 21, 2022 by Lineaxe
