Is it possible to walk around our aircraft in DCS and make various visual checks ?

Hi Everyone

To begin with, Happy New Year to all of our DCS fliers and the DCS Development Team.

I am trying to work out if it is possible to exit the aircraft that we have selected, walk around the aircraft freely and then get back in to the aircraft and re-take control.

So far, I can view the aircraft but only from inside the cockpit. I'm sure that I have missed the trick here and would be really grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Many thanks, as always, in advance

Ed

If you eject you can then walk around outside the aircraft. But you will not be able to enter it again.

Other than that, what you are asking for is not possible currently.

Why would you want to "WALK around" I don't get how that improves much on external view F2 ?  I must be missing something.

Many thanks Razo and CobaltUK. Yes, I tried the eject option but couldn't figure out how to get back in to the aircraft short of exiting and restarting the session again. The F2 function works fine Cobalt but what I wanted to do was to emulate what a normal pilot would do as part of his/ her pre-flight checks. It's also a good excuse to have a close look at the DCS development teams eye for detail. Looks like I will have to stay with the F2 external view option. All the best, Ed

For me, it would be great to be able to perform the exterior check that pilots usually do .. it would look somewhat like this:

Of course, this video was edited taking parts from a walkaround  performed after ejecting from a nearby parked aircraft, with parts from a normal cold start ... but it gives an idea of how it would look.

You can also use LCtrl+F11, with which you can get way closer than with F2.

In the free view, LCtrl+F11, you can use WSAD to move forward, backward, and laterally, standard FPS controls. The camera moves way to fast to look at aircraft up-close though unless you use LCtrl+WSAD instead. Anyone know how to rebind these controls for the free camera? I can't find them in the regular control bindings.

Hi Razo and Rooster, Many thanks for your suggestions. I'm going to take a closer look at the free camera and the LCtrl functions to see if this gets closer to the walk around that I would like to do. All the best guys and thanks for replying, Ed

1. Go up a ladder

2. Put on VR headset

3. Reset view

4. Go down (careful!)

5. Walk around (careful! big room needed!) 😉

3D model might be different or lacking parts when outside of the cockpit.

I haven't tried it yet but, I noticed in the latest patch notes there's been added a VR free cam mode. I wonder if this will effectively enable this?
