Great game, But, why is the load times so slow

Whenever i click on a mission, it quits to decktop then, it does nothing for at least 1 minute, then the mision, desides to load in, with multible flickering load screens, the after about 2 minutes all in, Im playing the game?

My specs

Am2 Amd 6400+

Crucial Ballistix 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz

XFX Graphics Card Geforce 8800 Ultra Xxx 768mb Black Dog edition

Windows vista 32

250 sata2 hard drive

Any help would be nice plz...

You bring up a good point, i don't like how the game kinda quits to the desktop and then goes back into the game everytime you press load. I think that really takes up a lot of ram since its showing the whole desktop again- in my book that's like alt-tabbing. I rather look at a splash screen or even black instead of going back to desktop.

A: The GUI and the game engine are separate entities and you are seeing the simulation switch from one to the other. There are two reasons for this: 1) shutting down the GUI prior to game start frees up more resources for the game engine and 2) the GUI is written on new technology that is not yet backwards-compatible with the game engine. We hope to resolve this as DCS is updated with upcoming modules.

But that doesnt tell me why it takes so long to load? does it, and this bit

frees up more resources, you are kidding me? not on my rig it dont

You can try to disable swap memory if your OS fits in 1GB at idle. This game won't use more than 2GB, so with amount of RAM you have and without running weird stuff, it may speed load times.

Yes it does. It's shutting down the ME and starting the 3D engine. The 3D engine and the data that must be loaded for it to run take a long time to load.

No he's not kidding you - he's exactly right, and it frees up resources on any rig. You might have more than needed, but that's how the software is designed.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

oh right, So slow load times is acceptable, in this day and age of games, not.

ive never known a game to be this slow at loading in missions

From Desktop to In-Game Instant mission in Cockpit it takes me approx 40 secs.....Online, from Desktop to CockPit approx 70 secs.........so not all doom and gloom ;) :)

I agree Viper.. doesn't seem slow to me.

People are so impatient... this is not Counter Strike. ;)

What, does this game/sim load slower than The Witcher?? :)

(Heh, honestly, you should've seen the unpatched load-time for the main Vizima Outskirts area! Not just two minutes, no sir. Of course, then they went and patched it, I tripled my RAM-amount - all hella fast. Anyway.)

It is slow, however, so is LOMAC for me..takes about the same amount of time.

I do not mind, and certanily don't consider it an issue, when the game quality is so high. If it takes a bit longer to squeeze all that quality into RAM, then so be it!

T.Bone,

You are not alone, and even the developers are completely aware of how long it takes to load. I am quite sure they worked long and hard to keep the load times down as low as possible without sacrificing any of the actual gameplay elements, but of course, that is where the emphasis must be, with the gameplay performance.

Developing something this huge in scope, and with this level of quality necesitates that there must be sacrifices as well (non collidable trees and long load times to name the only two I can think of). If there were a simple way to cut down load time without effecting the gameplay, I can confidently say ED would have implemented it.

So tuck in that bottom lip son, and just get on with it :)

Actually hardcore simulators have a lot of stuff to load, far more than a regular game, and is pretty common to see this loooong load times with them. What i think would've been better, and not so annoying seeing your game back to the desktop, was a "Loading... please wait" screen (with a beautiful KA50 pic) while the sim is switching from one interface or code to the other.

As a matter of fact I'm running this sim with 2 GB of RAM. Can somebody tell if having 4GB takes shorter to load? Maybe a test with 2 GB first and the insert the other 2GB and see if the loading times improves.

My rig specs:

Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR

I don't think so. Running this sim with 3GB of RAM and Core 2 Duo CPU overclocked to 3.1Ghz but the load time is quite slow.

Now i think i love the way LOFC runs, especially the load time after recovering aircraft is much faster than Black Shark :music_whistling:
