No, or at least not like in your picture where the downed pilot "rides" on the outside of the airframe.

With scripts like CLTD it's possible to create missions were you
• land near a downed pilot, etc.
•make them "vanish" i.e. board you aircraft
•fly back to a FARP or hospital/trigger zone
• land and have the unit respawn/disembark

You don´t even have to use script or CTLD to do that.
Just create a distressed pilot (US soldier w M4), a trigger zone (or two) and a helo. Land helo in trigger zone. deactivate pilot, add pilots weight to helicopter. Land helo in 2nd trigger zone, activate "rescued pilot", mission complete. Dress mission with some radio messages, a crashed and burning Apache, some dastardly enemies and boom, you spent a whole day to create a 20 minute mission.. 🤪
Made a similar mission not long ago for the virtual sqn I play with, where gunship Hueys and Hinds escorted a Huey that picked up SF at a hot lz. It was of course shot down, and the idea was that the less loaded hinds should pick up the survivors, but a player in a gunship decided he could do it, so he landed and "picked up" the team, gained 1000kgs of weight and had a really hard time taking off. 😆

He is clip hooked to the handrail. As long as pilot won't do something totally crazy like a loop or barrel roll he's ok.

His head is inches away from a gas-turbine jet engine? How does he not go deaf?

CSAR chief: "Yo, hotshot, wanna ride next to my turbine - or discuss aural sensitivity with that advancing republican guard column?"

Downed pilot: "I *love* turbines!"

I agree that such a "feature" won't be in it upon release. And also agree that your scripting idea is a good one!

But later in development, like just before exiting Early Access when everything else is done... I don't see why ED couldn't add such "wing walker" model.

But then... resources/time/money to spend a day or two to model the soldier and place, test and re-test... for something that might be done VERY rarely in-game (like WELL under 1% of missions played)...

Having the visual representation of 1 or 2 guys on the EFAB sounds like something that could be added with a mod like the one that was just released for the Huey. Not sure who created that, but the images I saw looked awesome.

who needs an MI-24 with such useless baggage like "seats" when you can bring 2 infantry into battle with your apache? Actually... with a flight of 4 you could bring a small fireteam, which is feasible. but if you only need a small fireteam then 4 apaches are probably way overkill... I guess. I guess the UH-60 does have a place. At least it's not a pretend attack helicopter.

Welllll.... don't tell operators of the UH-60 DAP !!

Quote

MH-60L DAP: The Direct Action Penetrator (DAP) is a special operations modification of the baseline MH-60L, operated by the U.S. Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.[141] The DAP is configured as a gunship, with no troop-carrying capacity. The DAP is equipped with ESSS or ETS stub wings, each capable of carrying configurations of the M230 Chain Gun 30 mm automatic cannon, 19-shot Hydra 70 rocket pod, AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, AIM-92 Stinger air-to-air missiles, GAU-19 gun pods, and M134 minigun pods,[142] M134D miniguns are used as door guns.[135]

As I understand it, no one's intentionally deploying from the Apache!  I believe it was a rescue mission where two stranded soldiers badly needed a ride... desperate. And worked well enough to test and train for some future similar ops.

Just an FYI, the Bell Cobra gunship also did a couple such rescues too, one during the Vietnam war, and at least one with the Israelis who might have even installed seatbelts for such an occasion (maybe?)!!!  Not on the stubby wings, but rather the side ammunition door that drops down like a bench seat...

Every time someone says the UH-60 isn't an attack helo, the DAP aircraft is always brought up.  "Direct Action Penetrator" aircraft are a very small number of unique aircraft optimized for covert strikes in a very narrow scope of warfare. You know how many times Apaches have been used to ferry small shipments of cargo between bases? And yet you will never hear an Apache crew claim the AH-64 is a capable transport helicopter.

Don't get me wrong, I think the UH-60 and the CH-47 are amazing helicopters in their own right, and people can say whatever they want based on their own definitions, I just think it's funny.

Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man.

Oh, I'm in total agreement!

Also, the DAP versions are VERY few in number, and due to the munitions weight don't carry troops or cargo... really I was just pointing out a rare exception, though the exception proves the rule!

You have a point there 🙂
