maxTRX Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 In a constant search for 'tricky' tactics to compensate for radar and other systems deficiencies, I set up an arcade type of scenario: A lone wolf (moi) with 10 AMRAAMs, against 4 defenseless J11A's set to ace, well... I gave 2 of them a couple of Archers . The main goal of this game was to look for 'hidden' changes and... I think I've found a few (intended or unintended, idn). The one that got me edgy was a decreased range for LHAQ acquisition. I was only able to lock bandits (no jammers) from around 12 ~ 15nm in a head-on aspect, co-altitude or look-up. Another issue I encountered a couple of times was a lock on a pocket of air. There was no bandit or any other object in the TD box, as I approached within VID range. Some locks were too persistent. With my track 'age' set to 4 sec., the darn HMD was still tracking something as I turned 180 deg. away. I'm telling ya... this is going backwards. https://youtu.be/IjP80FnKv7w 1 1
Hulkbust44 Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Yeah that range is atrociously short. In DCS right now in HPRF you get 48nm max for a Fighter. LACQ is supposed to see out to 40nm and only uses MPRF. Maximum range for MPRF in DCS is some 26nm.What we're seeing here, picking up a flanker only at 15nm is clearly wrong.Only time the LACQ range was ever really correct was when the overall radar was too powerful. HPRF was seeing too far, but MPRF was just about right. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk 1
diamond26 Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 (edited) I can confirm, unfortunately, that one of the JHMCS benefits is not working as described. There is no way lately to get a lock with LHACQ beyond 25nm Edited March 28, 2022 by diamond26 1 MAIN SYSTEM SPECS: MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4, Intel Corei7-12700K @ 5.0, 64Gb RAM Kingston KF3600C18D4/16GX, EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING 12GB, Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, VKB Gunfighter MkIV Ultimate with 20cm extension, VKB T-Rudder MKIV, Quest Pro Laptop SPECS: Alienware X16 R2, Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4090 mobile 16GB, 32GB LPDDR5X, 2TB Micron NVMe SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11
FrostLaufeyson Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Why did this happen.. This was a very useful function that is now the same as HACQ. . I feel so sad
FrostLaufeyson Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) I tested it today, now it's 30nm LHAQ 30nm.trk Edited April 3, 2022 by FrostLaufeyson

Harker Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Also tested it. The range gate is set to 40 NM, according to the RDR ATTK page and the actual limit is the acquisition range (because detection and acquisition ranges are apparently different now) in Medium PRF. I could lock a MiG-29 at 20 NM, for example. 1 The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. maxTRX Posted April 5, 2022 Author Posted April 5, 2022 I won't try to sound like an expert on overall performance of this APG73. My 'experienced' gamer evaluation can be summed up as... Now, just focusing on detection ranges, Viper size target, above 30k ft. co-altitude, RWS soft lock at 43nm, LHAQ at 30.5nm... I can live with it. In a look up situation though, say I'm on deck painting the bandit 34k ft. above (RWS scan w/ AWACS feed and my elev. adjusted), I can only soft lock him slightly above 12 nm. LHAQ the same. PRF makes no difference.
maxTRX Posted April 6, 2022 Author Posted April 6, 2022 @Hornet experts: Are these ranges realistic? (roughly )
Tholozor Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Looks about right for medium PRF on a fighter-sized target.
