Good afternoon, DCSers, and I apologize if this is posted in the wrong spot.

I'm wondering if anyone else experiences trim issues (regardless of aircraft) in missions in which you start airborne?  For whatever reason, when I do the "Instant Action" missions that have the aircraft start airborne, the first 30 seconds of it i'm desperately trying to get the trim sorted out which is highly disadvantageous when doing the 1v1 and 2v1 dog fights that DCS has built into the Instant Actions.

Not sure if it helps, but I'm flying the most recent beta (2.7 most up to date subversion) with a VKB Gunfighter stick, Virpil Mongoose throttle, and MFG Crosswind rudder.  All controls have been calibrated with their respective software.  Am I missing something within DCS itself?

If I need to upload a Track or Tacview, let me know.

Can anyone offer help?

Thanks in advance,

Zach

Yeah, I'm fairly sure most (if not all) aircraft spawn with trims set to neutral, no matter if the mission starts on the ground or in the air. That's just how DCS has been forever - nothing you can do about it apart from building your own missions with bigger separation from the enemy.

Tomcat airborne starts pretty trimmed. I heard devs do it by temporary enabling and disabling AP before giving the control to the player.

^ Interesting solution. Good to know - I don't own Tomcat and spend most time flying warbirds in DCS. In Il-2GB series they went the other direction and planes spawn there with trims already in some arbitrary cruise position. That approach has it's own pros and cons I guess.

I’d agree with this approach as in almost any single engine, propeller driven aircraft (especially warbirds with some oomph) is going to have a rudder trim right with any sort of power input at all.  This was my experience flying real prop planes as well (T-6b). It’s just physics. I’d rather make the small corrections of a plane trimmed for a cruising speed then the more drastic measures needed from taking it over at all things neutral. But that’s just my opinion. Good to know I’m in company with this.

Theoretically the trim could initialize based on the ME data based on some kind of tabulated data. The MiG-21 is particularly bad because its default trim state is a 0g ballistic path which will flame out the engine quickly if not corrected.

Hi.

Not sure. but maybe it is not the trim but the Joy position itself. There is an option you can check in that is "sybcronise Controls position at mission start". If unchecked, the plane can be serioulsy out of balance. I had that issue and corrected it by checking that option.

Just a thought...

Saludos.
