OK what am I missing? I understand this is me being a dullard but when using the quick play missions you have the option to add in some additional points.

They start with 2 letters but the coordinates need 3 letters to register. I assumed that you left the first letter and entered in from there but doing so ends up with the point being way way off the map and clearly wrong.

What am I doing wrong? Is this like the A10 where you have the 2 coordinate system? Any help would be great.

Afaik the AH64D uses MGRS (military grid reference system) or latitude/longitude (in format degree,minutes,minutes-decimal) in the TSD "moving map".

example as per Wikipedia:

4Q FJ 12345 67890

4Q = grid zone designator

FJ = 100.000 meter square indicator

12345 (like "easting" or "x coordinate")

67890 (like "northing" or "y coordinate")

10digit means it has a precision level of 1 meter.

AH64D will only take 8digit inputs (so precision up to 10 meter).

Example:

11SGQ52184911

Refer to page 198 in the quick start manual.

If you add a point, normally the TSD will automatically put in the "default" coordinate which is the present position of the aircraft to the KU and the enter cursor to the first digit of the 8digit numericals.

If you want to put in the point from scratch you need the first grid zone designator and square indicator as well.

When they are missing in the kneeboard, try the "default" ones.

MGRS or LAT/LONG? You need one of those.

Take a look also at this nice RedKite tutorial.

For practice you can use LCtrl+Y in mission editor to see MGRS data or LAT/LONG (and check in the game how it works) or in the game with F10 (map) LAlt+Y to see those coordinates, however some of data you must to correct yourself (in memory) but its easy way.

Ace thanks both. It's the MGRS coordinates I was struggling with in te quick missions but after watching the vid and then checking the other points already in the system I realised I needed to enter additional info first which isn't on the kneeboard info. 3 out of 4 worked so I'm getting there thanks.
