Hello!

I saw the poll and I voted, that for me is important the size of it to buy it or not. My SSD cannot fit a huge map, so in any case, maybe there is a solution that is great for everyone.

As you have all the sizes possible, why don't you make an option to install medium textures resolution or high ones? If we leave this to user substitutiion, there will be problems with IC... I don't know if this is possible, but I cannot imagine what South Atlantic map can be, if Syria is 60GB already.

Thanks!

There is not a single current DCS map with optional textures .. so, it's hard to believe that this time ED will implement that.  I opted to sell my 512 GB SSD a few months ago and upgraded to a 1 TB unit for a differential of about US$ 70, a good investment in order to be stress free every time DCS gets a new module.

Sorry, but I have different feelings. Its not the big problem to take the new SSD in current time. I don't want to say that something is cheap or expensive (because it depends on many factors and possibilities), but it can always try to sell your disk, add some and buy a new one. It will pay off in the future. Unfortunately - the simulator market is demanding in terms of hardware. Also (perhaps) we talk about differnce 20-30Gb between "low quality" and "high quality" textures and resolution. For photo textures - the must be in maximum possible. It's worth it and the impressions are great . Believe me, if they are of poor quality, there will be more complaints that they are "blurry" than that they have, for example, 80 or 100 Gb.

The problem is that they didn't say the size of the map's GB on medium settings. Maybe the average quality is already 80GB, if they multiply x2 it will be quite a lot.
They omitted important information that could be quite important.

As for that map size poll;

Personally I'm more concerned what this high res version will do to ingame performance. SSD's are relatively cheap and (imho) worth upgrading if it enhances the experience in DCS. But if this larger resolution map means it'll eat up half my framerates, I'd reconsider my vote.

But perhaps I don't understand how these things work and the map size has little or nothing to do with ingame performance

I'm happily willing to fly this map for the next year even if it means only very small missions. I know that's not everyone's cup of tea, but if this map is first rate, it's the one and only place to fly full fidelity combat jets and choppers over this kind of b1tchin' terrain. Throw in some weather and the right lighting and it could be the best flightsim experience going of any sim.

There are things you can't really do in any flightsim due to performance unless you have a $5000 rig. Great big action on this map might be one of them. But at least we have it, we can use it, and grow into it. As long as the map is first rate, I don't care how big it is or how much it costs.

According my expariance with photo textures they are faster that a lot of small, different, own made textures but the loading process is longer, but FPS are better even if on those textures are objects like models of trees or buildings.
