hsth Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Yesterday I checked both stable and beta to be updated to the latest version using Skate Zilla's program (not enough to be praised..). Both were. Then I started stable and got the number 2 indicating module updates available. So I did and saw that the South Atlantic terrain to be installed. Started the install but, to my surprise, it started a full download. Although it had been installed already in beta. So it took several hours again.... Maybe the module install procedure can be changed so that it works the same as general update? That one first checks if it is already available in the other installation.
draconus Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) Module Manager in DCS shows the number (in red) of modules owned but not installed. No wonder it started installing from scratch. Are you sure you had it already installed in stable? Also map files can be very big (over a few GB), so any file that differs between DCS versions has to be downloaded as a whole. The files need to be identical, if the open beta version of south atlantic has newer files, the utility is forced to download the original version of those files for the Stable version. 1 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
hsth Posted August 31, 2022 Author Posted August 31, 2022 As stated before, I had this module already installed in beta version. And I checked both, beta & stable, for updates. They both were. The only reason I could think of is that this terrain module does not come from ED but from Razbam.
draconus Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 OK, now I see it has nothing to do with SkateZilla's update utility and being Razbam module either. It seems DCS updater checks for the DCS files on available drives in the system but apparently module downloader run from Module Manager does not. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

The Build in Open Beta is different than the Build in Stable, so it would pretty much be an entire download. If Local Source isn't set it would not scan OpenBeta for compatible files to bring to Release, or vise versa. If Stable did update, then you couldn't have had the map installed prior, as it was not available in prior stable versions.
