aledmb Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ...you dampen it so it is less sensitive near the center? i have done that to my cougar, 'cause it still has some center play (it's very sensitive near the center). note that i did not set any deadzone in the stick. i have set the axes curves so that they're not straight lines anymore.

LIONPRIDE Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 never run in to the trgt area unless u want a bloody nose...use the hills and the terr..to mask your flight and learn to pop up....and keep your eyes outside the chopper.. . This is a cardinal rule of combat helo ops ... but I see nearly 95% of the videos showing themselves overflying their (assumed) dead targets. Good tip! . - - - - - - - - TO FLY IS HEAVEN. LoyalNine Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 ...why does everyone insist on pulling up your wheels as soon as possible? I deploy mine down if I plan to be doing some low work <25 or so. Keeps me from ruing my Shval if I lose my head in the ABRIS and hit the ground accidentally. Also my contribution to this thread is to map the Laser Warning Reset key to your stick. Helps huge in trying to figure out where the baddies are lasing you from. Very quickly you can point out nose out from target where your getting lased. max3228 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 When I first started learning how to fly Ka-50 I found landing safely to be my biggest problem. My fault because I had mapped Hover on/off and Descent Mode buttons to my stick and was trying to land using them....bad mistake. I mapped a Trimmer button instead and practice-practice-practice. Early on one of the most useful things for me was the "Flight Controller Indicator" box on screen. <keyboard> RCTRL+Enter Also Matt "Wags" Wagner's Accelerated Start-Up Video Producer's Note #1 - Start Up http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=products&end_pos=133&lang=en&page=2 If it's any help here is my effort (with a lot of help from "Wags") on a start-up list. maxKa50 Black Shark Startup.doc

Fish Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) DONT FLY WITH THROTTLES SET FULL Normal flight should be in second (one from the top) detent. You are less likely to 'over cook' the engines for long flights. TAXI AND TAKEOFF WITH HEADING AND ALT AP BUTTONS OFF Engage these in AP, Hover, or Target tracking modes only. SWITCH THE COCKPIT GAUGE LIGHTS ON Even in daylight, these give a better view of the instruments. (LSHF K) ALWAYS FLY WITH THE AXIS INDICATOR SWITCHED ON Its vital to know what you are at, cause the sim cant simulate the real stick position (CTL ENT) DIM THE HUD AND HMD REALLY LOW This will help you see your targets more clearly, they only need to be bright enough to read and see. USE THE CYCLIC TO STEER WHILE TAXIING. Not like fixed wing, rudder does little to steer at low ground speed. Use the cyclic instead, with throttle detent to pos 1, and cyclic pitch 1deg. USE THE SIDE WINDOW VIEW Sometimes gives better visual view of distant targets. Not obscured by hud glass. Use HMD to lock shkval on them, and autoturn to line up. TO SLOW AT LOW ALT, BANK STEEPLY, KEEPING ALT CONST, PULL ON COLLECTIVE, DROP CYCLIC. When u dont have the time to bleed forward speed and can't afford to gain alt but have room to maneuver. Approach you landing spot with an offset, and bank steeply into it. Im wondering when is a newbie, not a newbie ? :smartass: Edited September 22, 2009 by Fish Fish's Flight Sim Videos [sIGPIC]I13700k, RTX4090, 64gb ram @ 3600, superUltraWide 5120x1440, 2560x1440, 1920x1080, Warthog, Tusba TQS, Reverb VR1000, Pico 4, Wifi6 router, 360/36 internet[/sIGPIC]
VS461 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 For rookies like me Hi all, for rookies like me: Don't jump into a bloody battle just after installation. You have to learn how to fly this thing first. Start with these: Hover and slow movements Traffic patterns as a helo, as a fixed, with maximum TOW, with one working engine etc. Coordinated turns (try it without AP as well :D), acceleration and slow down, climb, descend, autorotation (you can practice it till the ground, it's quite cheap:D) Take-offs, patterns and landings from/to anywhere (trains, buildings, peaks with high MSL) Aerobatics Low level flights and navigation, adverse conditions navigation, NOE stuff I think these parts of a helo training should be done before combat. You can use any combat helo training manual via internet for exact tasks. I suggest some IFR practice if you have ideas about NDB nav: not for combat but improves your helo handling skills (you will be very smooth). For the handling itself: turn on the Flight Director and you won't fight with AP. That's all for the first. Cheers! За всю историю никто и никогда не сумел завоевать Афганистан. Hикто и никогда
Vesperatus Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 One thing I discovered today. Turn off heading hold ( default H+LShift ) if you enabled, which you must have if you followed the quick start procedure or the producer's note. Enable it only when flying a straight line. forget it if you want to navigate between buildings or trees. When the producers says "and now we engage autopilot" and his chopper automagically starts following waypoint, he just pressed R on his keyboard ( BOY did I searched that for long ). Btw, I bought this game more than a week ago now and didnt do a single combat mission yet. I dont even know how to fire a rocket yet :P ABRIS training is next See ya ! :pilotfly:
Lobo_63 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 USE THE COLLECTIVE TO STEER WHILE TAXIING. Not like fixed wing, rudder does little to steer at low ground speed. Use the collective instead, with throttle detent to pos 1, and cyclic pitch 1deg. You mean use the cyclic to steer correct? :joystick:

VS461 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hi again, one more thing, after you practiced much as a single helo: you can start formation flights with AI leader but NOT over hills or mountains: choose a simple, plain terrain. AI Sharks' (I mean, generally AI helos') terrain contouring is not realistic, you cannot follow your leader. Over the hills (and after some AI practice) you should choose a "human" leader during a MP session. Cheers! За всю историю никто и никогда не сумел завоевать Афганистан. Hикто и никогда
