Egyptian SAM will not be included in the map. This is not possible with map tools (TDK).

How come other 3rd party managed? Syria map is full of  SAM revetments.

They're just models of the revetments placed in a configuration (hopefully) matching the SAM site, just like say, a building or what have you.

No just scenery objects that are part of the map. It would be nice if some of the great scenery objects made for maps could be placed as static objects but so far nobody has added any. On Syria these are the most common with the 2nd most common being the larger revetment on the other side of the taxiway. These are world objects and what is great is that world.searchObjects can find them.

Screen_230119_173219.jpg

With some scripting you can find the objects for the revetment and then dynamically place units at the correct location and orientation easily enough.

Screen_201002_025928.jpg

However! There are also examples of the terrain itself being molded to create something similar. On Syria there are the larger revetments and berms like the ones screenshot below. Neither of these are detectable via scripting, which is weird for the revetment because it looks like an object is there but it really isn't.

Thanks first of all for the map, I can't wait to fly on it! One question out of curiousity:

Will Egyptian SAM revetments be included or should we add them manually in the mission editor? Egypt is full of them, the picture below is just the currently active ones we can see on publicly available imagery. If you need any help to find SAM revetments, I would be happy to provide a .kmz file with hundreds of active and empty sites. It's not a must have but I am just curious and hyped 🥲

It would be nice to get a .kmz file, in this case we will place them exactly at the coordinates. Thank you in advance!

@oibafx Do you have the kmz for your original post about it? I don't even know how to get the map you posted.

Thank you OnReTech!

@OnReTech I've attached a few below for Egypt, Israel and Jordan, taken from "SAM Site Overview.kmz".

The original (which contains EWR and SAM site locations from just about everywhere and something I highly recommend) can be found here.

Incindentally, for the EWR sites, would it be possible to leave them without radomes and only include the revetments/berms etc? This would allow us to place functional units instead of a static map object (which is what other maps do).

Thanks for the info, it will help a lot!

We will make an asset for Egypt, it will consist of mounds and support objects. Like this:

Surface to Air Missile Effectiveness in Past Conflicts
There will be a place to put the air defense objects in the mission editor.

Do you think it's worth making an icon for the mission editor for such places? So that everyone can see on the map?

@OnReTech, thank you very much for being so interactive and responsive. I have seen that Northstar was so nice and has provided you with kmz. files, thanks. This is also where my file is from. Adding these sites will make it incredibly more realistic to fly in these extremely SAM covered areas for Egypt and also help mission builders. Again thank you and everyone involved very much for the work!

With each new novelty I get more desire to buy the Sinai map. I hope you have many landmarks in Israel and Egypt. Important and tourist landmarks of each region. This will make it become a big map. I hope that after the third phase the project will continue to receive news in the regions. Thank You!

First of all, thank you a lot for adding these elements to the map, it will certainly add a lot to the diversity and complexity to the map 😃

I would like to ask if there is a possibility to extend this a bit in a way to add couple of these berms, emplacements and elevated positions as standalone placeable object withing mission editor?

For example, take this circular berm, make it as "Static Object"  and then we can place it somewhere on the map, and then add some tanks, ATGM carriers inside, make improvised "pillbox", ... Imagination is the limit and will enrich experience in all custom missions people would be making.

For now IIRC we have to resort to using mods that add those kind of berms. It would be really nice and highly appreciated if it could be added in the core. In my group we use those kind of objects a lot when making missions so this inquiry/request/asking nicely is from us all, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people that would like this.

I agree with this. I make a lot of missions and it would be nice if we had some placeable barriers that could go with portable SAM's like the SA-6 and SA-11.

Thanks for being so open to suggestions. That's all I can ask. If you can make it work, great. If not, no harm done.

The question remained how to mark them on the map. I can’t find how the place for these systems is indicated on the map.

How are city / village names done?

If you look at the Syria map, there are names for military bases areas and other places (cities, villages). It's not immediately visible, only when you zoom in but it's there.

If we can't have anything better, for sure generic 'SAM site' will suffice.

Maybe you could do sth similar to what it's there for airbases? Dedicated icon?

Yes, we can make icons, I will show an example of how we did it for ports
