OMG Check Out Persian Gulf

Give it some clouds with relatively calm wind then go fly over the water.  The water under the clouds is actually a different color!  It looks like it actually looks when you're out on the ocean.  I think it's only PG at this time, but it's pretty awesome.

It's great, innit? Try flying at night or evening. It is awesome!

Sick. Question: I haven't flown at night over Dubai in awhile, how long have those sparkles been on the Burj Khalifa?

is the draw distance still very short for you guys as well? Im flying vr but have vis range set to extreme and whatever changes were made to PG are non existent as far as I can tell. With NVG on I can see all these cities but when I take them off its just blackness only lights directly below are visible the draw distance is probably about 10 to 15 miles tops.

Is this expected?

Thanks

PG map definitely looks much better than before ! Just had a look at it now, going F2 on random planes flying around the map, the details of the ground textures, wow, definitely better from what i can remember, hard to explain but there is clearly some difference and it makes it feel much better overall !

ED, thank you, please continue developping this for the other maps too, it's awesome ! 🙂

I fly in VR alot too, but you have to use the monitor to appreciate the finer details.  I have a 49" 5120x1400 120Hz monitor running in HDR mode, which just puts the Rift S to shame with regards to details.  You can have 3-D or sharp, detailed graphics, but not both ... yet.

Truly impressive. I recorded a small clip in VR testing the new lighting system and real time shading and it's awesome, I hope they end up implementing it on all maps. 🙂

It's better than before, where they would be no light on the plane, either. Although, did you turn on the new shadows option? It was added to turn on Supercarrier lights casting shadows, so it's probably needed to see them here, too.

it's sooo much better than before already. of course having the options for shadows would be nice, but we have to remember that those would probably come with a slight impact on performance. dcs uses deferred shading, so just having that many lightsources by itself should come more or less for free, but this does not include shadows per each light...

Well, the tech is there, they just have to enable it for map lights, not just SC. It can even be turned on and off individually, should the performance hit prove too heavy.

Just flew a dusk mission into Iran out of Al Minhad in VR. The return leg as the light was fading and the various towns, cities, highways, airbases and airports lit up was absolutely outstanding. Easily the most immersive, impressive, and convincing night flying I've ever done in a sim.

Now we just need Vulcan, multicore, dynamic campaign, proper ATC, and improved AI and we're away to the races. 😄

Incredible work on the nighttime lighting, though. 👍
