Cold start battery on

When loading cold start missions (instant action or otherwise) the battery is already turned on; I think it is set to main power. That doesn’t seem to be very ‘cold’.

This is correct as-is, our Viper is typical of how the crew chief will set up the cockpit for the pilot. Thanks!

Battery switch is always turned to the OFF position upon leaving the cockpit. This is stated is various checklists. Main power switch to battery still drains power

As I understand it, the team is setting the switches as if the crew chief has switched on what he would before you enter the cockpit. Wags has spent some time with real pilots and crews. I am sure the checklist might state this, but how many crews have their ways of doing things?

The crew chiefs set the switches and make sure they are in the right position, so the pilot can follow his checklist, which is from a cold jet with everything which drains power, makes noise or is weapon related set to off

I have yet to meet my first crew chief who pre sets all switches for the pilot. Heck, if people forget the main power switch, they will hear about it.

There may be different procedures amongst F16 operators, but as far as i know, main power is always in OFF position

If the switch is left on for too long, it will damage the equipment onboard. Ask your sme about it.

Main power switch should be in off position.

All our switch settings are set with discussions with our SME. As well, I just had a look and the battery switch is set to off at cold start for me anyways. Do you have Sync to HOTAS checked and maybe it is set to on with your controls?

I'm not having problems with the switch, i was just stating how it *should* be irl.

Maybe the  OP has the switch bound, like you mentioned.

Hi all

Thanks for the chatter on this one. Seems there’s a varied opinion on this subject. My opinion is simply related to the checklist that operates the power switch based upon initially set to OFF.  My rig set-up (Warthog HOTAS) does sync switches on startup, but I don’t have anything mapped to the power switch. Maybe it’s the way the sync works. I’ll have a bit of a play with that.
Thanks again.

FOUND IT.

My HOTAS throttle flaps switch was mapped to the power switch: flaps-up = Main Pwr. Never noticed or used it. Thanks very much for the pointers. And sorry for the bother.
