ED Team JimMack Posted January 16, 2009 ED Team Posted January 16, 2009 I have noticed that there a lot of new members to the forum in the last month. They may not be aware of Tacview - http://lomac.strasoftware.com/tacview-en.php This is a very useful ACMI tool for after action review of flying a mission. You can see where you made mistakes. Also it is of great use for mission creation/testing. 2 Having problems? ericinexile Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I use it after nearly every mission. The really cool thing for me with the latest version is the modeling of artillery shells being lobbed to 20k feet. There is so much metal flying by and over your helicopter that you would never know about without Tacview. Open Tacview, and press the second icon on the menu (the one that looks like a globe). Tick "Record 'Black Shark' Flights". After that, your recordings will be in the Black Shark\temp folder after each flight. You do not need to have Tacview open to record.

Count Sessine Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Hi all I can't get Tacview to work. No ACMI files show up in any folders on my computer after missions. Could a kind soul please help walk me through it?
Lobo_63 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 (edited) Make sure you follow Wombats advice a few posts ago about Ticking "Record 'Black Shark' Flights". After that, your recordings will be in the Black Shark\temp folder after each flight. All I did was: 1) Fly the mission. 2) Open Tacview, click on file button, (just left of the globe) 3) Click open, go to your Black Shark folder > temp folder. 4) In temp folder you will see a file such as "Tacview-20090124-004050.txt" click the file and you are off to the races. It seems with record Black Shark flights ticked it will record every flight you fly. No need to save track files as I previously thought. Edited January 24, 2009 by Lobo_63 Correction. No need to save track file.
fox_111 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 All I had to do is open trackview, set it to record for Black Shark (in the planet menu, second one from the left). Close Trackview. Play BlackShark Close the game, go in Trackview, open the track in the Ka50 "temp" folder. It should be a file .acmi.track or something... You will know it when you see it, it will show in trackview. I expected to be able to open BS tracks, wich Trackview does not. It generate it's own files on it's own when playing.
eV1Te Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 This is exactly what I have been missing from BS, great tool! The ingame tracks doesn't always work and the debrief.log file contains nothing useful.
Bonkers Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Count Sessine Tacview also would not work for me (not writing the *.acmi files in the temp folder) even after following Wombat's and Lobo's advice. My Vista 32 BS installation was in \Program Files. You will need to run the launcher as an administrator. You can do this by navigating to \Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable\launcher.exe, right click and select properties, click on Compatablity tag and tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. The *.acmi file, in addition to LastMissionTrack.trk plus some log files, will now appear in the temp folder after you have exited a mission. If BS is installed in a folder outside of Program Files then this problem does not occur. Hope this helps.
Sunjah Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 This is exactly what I have been missing from BS, great tool! The ingame tracks doesn't always work and the debrief.log file contains nothing useful. I would absolutely agree, save for one point. The beauty of "in-game" Black Shark footage is superior. I was trying to watch my landing, and would much rather see that from "in-game footage" than the tactical rendering of TacView. (Not sure if it is right, but my helicopter actually lands 10 feet BELOW the runway with TacView; might be how it is for everybody, but it makes it hard to learn from things like landings; for combat, flight, etc., it is great, but I still wish I could do things like watch [ONLY] my landing from "in-game footage".) Remember, on Nov. 4th, vote for Black Shark for President!!!
fox_111 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I think someone should make a complex, realistic training mission that people could download and try. Using tracview, it could teach some people here tactics and manuvers. Especially if comments are added with the files. We could have a classroom subject to go along with it. I'd be very interested to see that.

But when I start the game now it starts as if it was a fresh installation. I has 'forgotten' my profile (and all my hardearned flight hours ). Do you know why that is?
Count Sessine Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Also, it disables the hotkeys in TrackIR. Fx I cannot use F12 to center.

Bonkers Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) Hi Bonkers That was the problem! Thanks a lot. But when I start the game now it starts as if it was a fresh installation. I has 'forgotten' my profile (and all my hardearned flight hours ). Do you know why that is? Look for a copy of your original Players.lua (with all your hard earned hours plus any progress in campaigns) in a location similar to this: \Users\Bill\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook if so, replace the one in \Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook with this copy. There are other files in the Users Virtual store such as mission files (.miz) To get TrackIR to work as it should, that too has to be run as an administrator. Now I find that Wombat's excellent core tool dscaff no longer works thus losing valuable frames. I have come to the conclusion that the easiest way to have Tacview working with BS is to copy the whole BS installation to a folder outside of Program Files ie right click on the Eagle Dynamics folder within Program Files and copy and paste to the root of your drive. There is then no need to run anything as administrator. Again when you first run BS from this location it starts up as if for the first time. However copy over your Players.lua into logbook, set up your preferred settings via Options and voila all's well again. Edited January 25, 2009 by Bonkers
eV1Te Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Is it possible to change the units in the telemetry window (vertical speed from m/min to m/s like ingame for example)? How do I open up the .dat archive that comes with the tacview? (on this page it seems like the data is extracted somhow? http://lomac.strasoftware.com/tacview-static-objects.php )
Count Sessine Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Bonkers, I've done as you, copied the ED folder into the root directory. But now TrackIR doesn't work anymore, neither in admin mode or not. Very strange. Should I delete the original Programfiles/ED folder ?
Count Sessine Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Problem solved: You need to run both applications at the same permission level within Vista, or they will not function properly.
