i have notice a couple of updates ago that a lot of the bandits aircraft would go missing, the other day with in a short period of time they started dropping repeatedly. these were just 1v1 scenarios, i had noticed things happening in bigger scenarios but its alot harder to pin point the issue and  i saw them fly into the ground in two of these tracks, here are a couple of tracks.

im just taking a stab in the dark here, but maybe one of the reasons why the ai have been flying into the ground is because in dcs most trees are 300 to 400 ft tall.  i routinely see ai flying in between trees, granted it makes for a good dog fight, if they dont crash.

This topic is currently marked as "Cant Reproduce", so I thought I'd chip in because in around 8 out of 10 of my engagements today the Ace AI crashed themselves into the sea and died.

To replicate, in mission editor, I just dropped an F-14A (player) and an Ace F-5, 10 miles apart  (default altitude, default payload).   In one flight, it takes just 70 seconds for the Ace AI pilot to smash himself (or herself) face-first into the sea.  Mission attached, 4 TacViews attached.

I'm finding dogfights in DCS are more a game of "Shoot him before he kills himself".

What my RIO sees is coming:

What's actually coming:

And how I'm scoring my sorties now....

Note: this is just meant to be a bit of light-hearted satire, before anyone get's too upset, I think the team at ED are doing an amazing job.

Thanks

Hi @Clunk1001 and thanks for you message, which I had fun reading.

I tried your mission facing the F-5, expecting it would fall into the sea. I didn't attack it and it took the advantage right away and I was shot very quickly.

Please provide a track from your mission so I can learn how to scare a MiG-28 pilot like you do! And so I can see the bug for myself and report it, of course.

You just need to get behind the AI, and stay there; It will eventually just turn itself into the ground (seems to be triggered if you sit behind it and then start a high yo-yo, it’ll turn low with no regard to its height agl so collides with the ground).

(The track files are useless and neither aircraft perform in the same way as the actual encounter)

I changed the loadout slightly: F14A has no missiles, no guns.  With no weapons I can consistently (5 out of 5) kill ("dunk" might be a better word )the Ace AI F5E-3.

The F5E-3 load was as follows:

Whilst I've seen this with other aircraft, I can only replicate it consistently against the F5E-3.   Mig29, Mig23, and Mig21, all seem to have better ground-collision awareness.

Look. I really, really suck at dogfghting (attached track will prove my point - you have the right to laugh). Please save DCS tracks showing what you describe.

Please use an ED fighter if you have one (ED devs don't have them installed because they don't maintain them) and the Caucasus map (same deal: AI devs usually don't install maps).

Thank you! I can reproduce the issue  in current OB thanks to your track, but it doesn't happen in ED internal build: the AI seems to have a better survival instinct. Chances are the AI will do better in the next OB update. You tell me.

I sincerely hope so. Yesterday, two 109s chasing my Mossie crashed into the Channel (very kind of them, I was running away at 30 feet hoping they'd hit the water).

An FW190 "Zero" crashed into a mountain slope trying to outmaneuver me in the Marianas Airfield Denial mission. Kamikaze training?

unfortunately I don't think AI has any more desire to live here in the future 2024. i keep running them into the ground when I get behind them

This has been a thing for so long and just goes with the poor AI overall. They still do infinite loops just now they perform them horizontally instead of vertically. However they are very good at gun jinxing, that is until you run them out of fuel or into the ground.
