Hey gang,

So I have decided to move my WWII action over now to DCS. Being able to use my Point CTRL with it and now the upcoming carrier ops with the Corsair has sealed the deal for me. Spitfire has been and likely alway be my favorite WWII fighter so I am starting there. Have now got cold start, taxi, takeoff, and landings down pretty good so I think I am ready for some single player campaign action. I do not do MP.

Looking for any recommendations for a good first campaign. I do not mind payware, in fact I prefer it to help support the great campaign builders and I like good quality campaign that pass the DCS smell tests so to speak. Any feeback much appreciated, I am anxious to get started with this. Currently flying the Hornet and learning the Apache, so this will be a nice less complex change of pace for me.

For me, "Beware, beware" is easily the best dcs spitfire campaign … great immersion and intermediate difficulty 🙂

Here is a video so you can see what to expect:

i'm also fairly new on the Spitfire, i've picked up the operation Epsom campaign. This campaign is similar to the P51 charnwood campaign and has a mixture of ground attack, recce and the occasional air intercept.

Overall its a good campaign, but theres too much focus on ground strikes for my liking, spitfire is not known for ground attack and more suited to air combat. also the German AAA is stupidly accurate making some of the ground attack missions frustrating (in my opinion).

Currently right before the halfway point of Beware Beware, it's my first campaign. It's greatly immersive, but beware beware (hu hu) of the AI taxi and climb speed. And I had to turn on dot labels, otherwise I would loose my element right on take-off. On the other hand, damn, it teaches you how to fly that spit. I've had adventures. Sometimes without shooting.

I forgot to tell you that this campaign requires ww2 assets  pack and the channel map, hope you had purchased those too 👍

I just finished Reflected's Blue Nose Bastards of Bodney and I partially finished Horrido and they were both fantastic, his campaigns are awesome. I am about to start the Big Show, and I will probably go back to the FW190 and finish Horrido next. Do not miss out on the mission briefing PDFs! You get a little history lesson about the real people who the missions were based on.

Will do - thanks much! I now have Beware Beware and will likely start it this weekend. Just going to be working on my landings a little more today, not fully satasfied with the consistency of them currently.

The Spitfire is a really tough one to land and take off in, coming from the Mustang it took me a while to figure it out. I don't know why the brits designed that tailwheel like that.

Having flown both The Big Show and Beware Beware, I'm going to diverge from the crowd and give a vote for The Big Show.

Beware Beware is by far a superior campaign in terms of immersion and realism, but for someone who's a bit fresh to the WW2 A2A scene The Big Show has a much more suitable difficulty level. In Beware Beware, you're fighting highly experienced Luftwaffe opponents, and Reflected's (awesome) surprises he throws in require a high level of situational awareness. The Big Show takes place later in the war where the opponents are less experienced, with missions that are enjoyable for entry-level fliers who haven't quite acquired situational awareness skills or BFM skills necessary for Beware Beware.

The Big Show was my first DCS campaign and I concur it has an adequate difficulty for new pilots.

Ok thanks much I plan on starting a campaign hopefully later today and sounds like The Big Show should be it. Thank you much appreciated! Yeah a little easier for my first campaign is not a bad idea. Still not 100% satisfied with my landings but reckon I am close enough now.

Its hard to be 100% satisfied with one's landings in the Spitfire in dcs. 😉

Just have to learn to accept scraping a wing landing. Still counts as a pass so I'll take it 🤷‍♂️

Totally forgot about that. Big Show isn't without its challenging landings (wind, turbulence), but Beware Beware goes even further sometimes with higher winds and low visibility.

Ok thanks guys. Still have not started Big Show but will for sure one day this week. Can't get Vaicom Pro working with the Spit so gonna have to assign some function keys directly in voice attack. Pretty much greasing those landings in now - for the most part anyway lol.

Ok so I have now flown both The Big Show and Beware! Beware! campaigns and have thoroughly enjoyed both. I have the Epsom Campaign and thought I would do it next - however just reading all the 14 pages of briefing notes for the first mission alone has me feeling quite overwhelmed.

Any other good recommendations for campaigns for the Spit? Other than these three not much turns up in the searches I have done. Or is the Epsom Campaign not quite as intimidating as it looks?

Like I said - I found 14 pages of briefing notes to be a bit overwhelming. My first two campaign I mentioned had like 3 or 4 pages of briefing notes.

I will watch this hour long video when I get time tomorrow thanks.

Fwiw it's mostly pictures 😁

I think a lot of it is the expected routes of ground forces and such which you can likely ignore
(I take no responsibility for friendly fire casualties)
