A-7 Pics and Vids

In the spirit of generating some more enthusiasm for this upcoming module, I think we need some material of real world SLUFs to get hyped on. 😉

I have a very personal love for this aircraft as it was one of the first fighter bomber's I'd ever seen up close as a kid. My current unit flew these from 1974-1992 when they converted to Block 30 F-16C's and I still know a few of the older guys around the base that crewed them before they went out of service.

Currently, we have several of our former A-7's still parked around the state on display. It left a pretty major impact on our unit's history based on the significant achievements attained while operating them. My one wish to the devs is that our squadron colors get to live on in this module for DCS on release.

That all being said, I'll kick things off. Lets see what everyone else can gather up to share here. 👍

This is my most anticipated module. I honestly can't wait for it.

With the Nimitz, Forrestall, F-14, F/A-18, upcoming A-6 and F-4 DCS is shaping up to be an excellent USN cold war sim

Think there is also an F-8 in the mix too!

Magnitude 3 is building a F-8 Crusader.
Our F/A-18C is not really a Cold War machine 😉

Remember M3 has actually complete Corsair Module to 2023, the F-8 will coming on 2024.

Unfortunately that is not how that works. I do wish it was that way. The F-8 is going to fill a kind of gap in the upcoming cold war modules. Also having a high performance carrier based pure dogfighter will be an absolute blast. But it's unlikely that we will see it before 2026 at the vary earliest. That's the disadvantage of having a small team.

I was stationed at Lowry AFB, in Denver in 1977-78, going to school on the AN/APQ-120 radar for the F-4E, and remember going over to Buckely Field and watching the A-7Ds in the pattern.  One time when I went over, there was an A-10 prototype at the field.  It was doing testing with the Army at Fort Carson.  Talked to the pilot, the nicest guy, for sure.  He spent about an hour with me and two of my buddies, telling us all about the A-10 and what it was capable of.  I also saw three Bolivian P-51D's parked at Buckley, stopped for gas and lunch on a cross-country mission up from South America.

I later saw the Buckley A-7Ds again, when I was assigned to the 33rd TFW, at Eglin AFB, Florida.  They came up for the WSEP (Weapon System Evaluation Program) qualifications.  They were flying with F-100Ds from the South Dakota, and Michigan Air National Guard!

Those were the days, LOL.

Despite your current unit's best efforts I have some really nice pictures of them flying over my house.  Very annoying, because that's my airspace and they're only allowed to use it if I get some advance notice to get the camera ready!  Do find it interesting when an F-16 goes over with one 120B and one 120C, blue stripes, on the wings.

Probably the best picture I've gotten was a CH-47 with a couple guys sitting on the ramp with their feet dangling over nothing.  Then there was the Blackhawk that circled around, but it was a crummy day and the pictures weren't all that great.

Still, nice to see all of them out there flying around.

Here are a couple of good videos about the A7D/E HUD, which was very impressive for it’s day!
