flyco Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I've been having various problems with DCS OB and Helios, and so decide to re-install a fresh DCS-open beta. (I am using Windows 11). DCS seems to have installed OK but, during initial start-up, I get a notice saying: "DCS Updater 2.16.2.17 Latest available version 2.8.1.34667.2 requires Windows 8.1 or higher Press OK to pick the latest compatible version." When I continue I get a second message: "Version 2.8.134667.2 is not available - Consider updating." Following these odd (and incorrect notices), the system continues to load DCS 2.8.1.34667.2 without any obvious problems. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or is able to suggest a cause (and/or cure)

flyco Posted January 12, 2023 Author Posted January 12, 2023 The anomaly is that DCS seems to think I am running a version of Windows before Version 8.1. DCS version numbers are OK.

Many users already run Win11 no problem with DCS. Try running dcs.exe instead of dcs_updater. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
flyco Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 My apologies - I find that I am running DCS Open-Beta version 2.5.6.61527. This would seem to indicate that DCS has selected this version as the most recent that will run under Win 8.1, as indicated by the warning displayed during DCS start-up. However, the PC was bought new around 8 months ago with Windows 11 installed, and it is most definitely running V.11 That prompts the question: how does DCS check the Windows version which is running, and how do I correct it?

flyco Posted January 13, 2023 Author Posted January 13, 2023 Thanks Draconus. Unfortunately, DCS, when it starts to update, says that I have an early version of Windows, which will not run the current edition of DCS. It claims that my Windows is earlier than 8.1. Thus it insists on installing Version 2.5.6 of DCS. What I don’t know is where the fault is and how to correct it. I am reluctant to re-install Windows from scratch.
draconus Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 (edited) Are you sure you have Windows 11? Run cmd. Edited January 13, 2023 by draconus Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

flyco Posted January 14, 2023 Author Posted January 14, 2023 Yes, I definitely have Windows 11 (and ONLY Windows 11) installed. Other members of my group are having various unexplained anomalies with Win 11, but not as bad as I.

flyco Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 Thanks to all who offered advice. In the end I submitted a ticket to DCS, and got the reply within an hour. I appear to have clicked an option to run Windows 8, which was located within the DCS intro. Problem solved and thanks to Mike at DCS. 3
