Mad Dog 7.62 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 That's pretty cool....much simpler than alt-tabbing out of BS to set affinity!! Good find! Weta43 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 ANybody know whether setting the CPU priority for BS higher than normal (or "High") makes any difference? Cheers.
hoorah Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 What does this affinity tool do? If you have a mutli-core cpu, bs only defaults to one....the affinity tool sets all your cores to run bs. Some servers seem to lock up if you alt tab out, so I rather like this tool. Eagles may soar, but weasels aren't sucked into jet engines.
Feuerfalke Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 If you have a multicore CPU or multiple CPUs AND Vista or another OS that supports multiple CPUs. :smilewink: MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD

DragonRR Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 It looks like your path may be incorrect Viper. My path using this tool is here: C:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50 Did you install just to an Eagle Dynamics folder or did you install to a KA-50 folder? Assuming KA-50 folder .. Check your registry entry here: computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Eagle Dynamics\BlackShark If you look at the path key in there.. is it correct? [sIGPIC]Click me to go to the post[/sIGPIC]
159th_Viper Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Ta M8 I just realized that, in my Infinite Wisdom, I added an extra KA-50 folder sunsequent to the installation to conform with the previous XP install - obviously superflous on the Vista Install  Re-arranged/deleted and now all is in order! Assistance appreciated :) Saying that - Is the KA-50 folder necessary? If so, am I correct in assuming that the path in the registry just has to be amended to relect the additional KA-50 folder? -Nighthawk- Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Who created the program again? Would be nice if it could minimize to the tray and get rid of that "Affinity Set" message
NullCharacter Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 The program was officially announced by the developer here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=609823&postcount=121 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
crazysundog Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 ANybody know whether setting the CPU priority for BS higher than normal (or "High") makes any difference? IIRC, it is a bad idea. I can't recall the explanation why, but i think it had something to do with the reasoning that if BS is running, it has the highest priority already.
fox_111 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Will this prog augment the performance if I'm running 2 cores on XP?
eV1Te Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Will this prog augment the performance if I'm running 2 cores on XP? No but I haven't tested myself only read from other people... Check out the thread that I linked to a few post up for more info.
strannick Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I have an e6400 dual core, but am running xp instead of vista. is there anyway to still utilize affinty for bs? cheers
RichardG Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Setting affinity for all my other programs "sticks", and remembers it next time I launch the app. Why doesn't Blackshark remember the affinity setting I give it like all my other programs? And are they gonna fix it?
HellMutt Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I have an e6400 dual core, but am running xp instead of vista. is there anyway to still utilize affinty for bs? cheers The program will make BS (DCS.exe) run on two cores, but what I get from other people that ran tests on performance gains is that running BS on two cores in XP makes almost no difference to running it on only one core; while running BS on two cores in Vista gives you a serious performance increase. HellMutt Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Setting affinity for all my other programs "sticks", and remembers it next time I launch the app. Why doesn't Blackshark remember the affinity setting I give it like all my other programs? And are they gonna fix it? As I understand it, XP and Vista will normally try to spread the load by running programs on all available cores. But BS (DCS.exe) overrules this and only uses Core 0 (the first core). This is hardcoded into the program. As far as fixing it, there will a patch (subject to change), but I don't know what will be in it. Jesse Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Experiencing Issues here insofar as the program fails to perform  Any Ideas? DragonRR is right. Your path in the path box should always end with ka50. You can easily fix this in the registry editor. Would be nice if it could minimize to the tray and get rid of that "Affinity Set" message I was thinking myself that the sound and window was getting annoying. I'll work on it and upload the next version by the end of tonight. Also as NullCharacter suggested, it will now remind you to start the Trackir software if you have it. I just need to test it on my x64 partition. 1

In the patch, the affinity setting will be accessible in the configuration files and you will be able edit and save it. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer.
