Immediate Crash on start up in VR

Open through MT EXE, game starts to load and immediately crashes to desktop. unable to even play at all, No mods duplicated multiple times. Closest to getting into game is menu music but black screen then crash.

Same problem.
Opening the regular dcs.exe with the new beta works fine. Opening the multi threading version makes it crash to desktop. The last lines of my log quoted below.
Using Pimax 8KX. Tried with SteamVR and OpenXR - no difference.

I hit by a different bug, silly me, every time I start in MT, Pico4 automatically goes to OpenXR, but still  crashes when loading mission.

Yeah I think this is why VD is having problems when trying to launch in oculus api standalone. I think the priority chain is messed up again in some way so it's trying to force OpenXR which VD can't do without SteamVR.

May be, better bring it up to VD.

 Launching DCS in VR mode with MultiThreading was failing, with it locking up in the loading screen.

Like Lobo says above, updating my OpenXR Toolkit to 1.2.4 seems to have fixed that issue. After updating that, I can now run the Multi Thread version, using PimaxXR and OpenComposite. My headset is a Pimax 8Kx.It launches and I made it into a MP server as a test. It does seem to have increased framerates some. I noticed that when running it in MT mode with the frame rate counter on, there is now a message on the frame rate counter that will say either CPU bound or GPU bound. When in game, on Grayflag PG server, sitting on the ground in a cold Apache, it was quickly alternating between those two messages.

However, it is unplayable due to head tracking issues. Can't really describe it well, it seems that when in MT mode, headtracking is having problems. Seems to be stuttering or fluctuating somehow. It was bad to the point where I had to pull my headset off to avoid motion sickness.

To verify that the tracking problem was related to MT mode, I then launched DCS in normal VR mode, again using PimaxXR and OpenComposite, and everything was fine. Head tracking was solid.

I just did this: 

I set my pagefile on the C and D drive to 16384. DCS is on the D drive. Probably not necessary to do both. The MT version runs now although I am not seeing any increase in FPS yet  

Edit: I was already running OpenXR toolkit 1.2.4

some are saying if you are using openxr toolkit and boost it creates problems, could it be that?

Not even launching in OpenXR.

I managed to get on via VD > OpenVR > SteamVR and play for a good while.

Tried Oculus link, that was fine for a while till it crashed with this:

Can't seem to currently launch in Oculus API at all.

Performance wise a bit of a sidegrade for me so far. CPU is bottlenecking harder than in ST on VD > Oculus API > DCS, so it's hard to compare to VD > OpenVR > SteamVR > DCS.

Need to do more testing though, as it may be the server bottlenecking, or the objectparse buildup.

@Good Ol 73 You did not provide your full dcs.log file, but I suspect you're having the same symtom. The three of you have a Lua error at the end your crash stack. And it seems the two other users have altered Lua files in the "MissionEditor" core game folder. You can try the same remedy and see if that helps.

Deleted mission editor folder, ran the repair. No joy, instant crash when trying to start in oculus api. Didn't even get an error that time, just closed itself. As I said I can launch in VD > OpenVR > SteamVR > DCS, but that's much less efficient overall. Single-threaded .exe still launches in Oculus API on VD just fine.

@FlappieI registered on this forum especially to ask if you can see what is wrong in my case.

 I had update yesterday, MT crashes on start with error window. I did slow repair two times, download fresh openxr toolkit, deleted mission editor and made repair after this, set pagefile to 32768. Nothing helps. ST works fine in VR and flatscreen, MT works fine in flat screen mode, but crashes in VR.dcs.log-20230310-225832.zip

I'm not sure this Lua error means something since @Good Ol 73 managed to get DCS working simply by changing his pagefile (he also had a Lua errror message).

Sorry, I don't know much about VR. I'm still a 2D guy so far.

According to this page, your XR_ERROR_FORM_FACTOR_UNAVAILABLE error means "Could not initialize VR. Ensure that SteamVR, OculusVR, or any other OpenXR-compatible runtime is running. Also set it as the active OpenXR runtime.".

Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever.

Yes! It worked!!! I went to Oculus and set OpenXR as the active runtime.

"XR_ERROR_RUNTIME_UNAVAILABLE" means "the loader was unable to find or load a runtime". Chek your OpenXR installation, and see if @Igrok_kun's solution works for you.
