Target view?

Sorry, couldn't find in the main DCS threads, but is there a way to view my specific ground target from a position on the ground and a little further away from the target so I can watch it get destroyed? 

Ground Unit view and Ground Hostile view just show random units. Is there a way to select and view the target I've released a weapon on (for example, to watch cluster munitions falling on a group of targets)?

If you select the unit in the F10 map and then press F7, you'll view the unit you've selected. Same goes for airplanes (F2), ships (F9) and airfields (F11).

Its worth noting though that some missions disable being able to see those kinds of views as they can be used as a kind of cheat for locating targets etc.

True. In this case, you've got to open the mission with the Mission Editor and enable MAP view in the options.

Tried to enable the view options in some campaign missions and it won't let me save. Am I doing something wrong, or are campaign missions locked so that you can't save them after enabling views?

Paid DLC campaigns are secured so you can't save the changes but you can fly the single mission.

There’s a box in the options you can check to enable your own settings for campaigns like external views and such. If that’s what you’re looking for. It’s possible that changing some things like the radio comms can affect the scripting but I don’t think view settings affect them.

Although the options menu gives you a checkbox to override mission settings the mission maker also has an option to ‘force’ their settings and ignore your overide.

You can get round this, but not using the mission editor as that wont save changes ( you can fly it from there with your changes).

So… find the mission file in the install directory open with a zip utility, extract the mission lua. Edit that with text editor to the permissions you want and copy it back into the zipped .mix file.

Now you can file the campaign/mission from DCS in the normal way but…. The next update will restore the original version.
