Ahdidaas Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Hi friends, So I use a Quest 2 w/ a TM-Warthog HOTAS. Its fantastic, I'm having a great time! One issue I have though is where to put the quest controllers when my hands are flying? I'd often just leave them in my lap, yet they will fall off eventually, dropping out of the chair onto the floor. I've tried leaving them tucked in between the hip and the chair, yet I have to be careful about the triggers on the controller. I've flipped the seat-eject-active button accidentally doing this. I've got a great cockpit setup, just can't decide what to do with these controllers. I've thought about just keeping one in my lap and using that exclusively, yet I do switch the hand I'm using around the cockpit, so that won't work. I'm curious what others do with their controllers while flying? -Jim (Guymn)
Lange_666 Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Mine are lying next to my monitor. I don't use them while flying. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!
LucShep Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Mine were only used once for configuring things first time, afterwards got back on the box. I also don't use them while flying. 1 CGTC - Caucasus retexture | A-10A cockpit retexture | Shadows Reduced Impact | DCS 2.5.6 - a lighter alternative Spoiler Win10 Pro x64 | Intel i7 12700K (OC@ 5.1/5.0p + 4.0e) | 64GB DDR4 (OC@ 3700 CL17 Crucial Ballistix) | RTX 3090 24GB EVGA FTW3 Ultra | 2TB NVMe (MP600 Pro XT) + 500GB SSD (WD Blue) + 3TB HDD (Toshiba P300) + 1TB HDD (WD Blue) | Corsair RMX 850W | Asus Z690 TUF+ D4 | TR PA120SE | Fractal Meshify-C | UAD Volt1 + Sennheiser HD-599SE | 7x USB 3.0 Hub | 50'' 4K Philips PUS7608 UHD TV + Head Tracking | HP Reverb G1 Pro (VR) | TM Warthog + Logitech X56
Eugel Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Mine are stowed away in a box. I only use them in rare occasions when I play other VR games. Do you use your controllers for flipping switches in the cockpit ? I found it much easier to do that with a mouse. 1
AlpineGTA Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Yep, I don't use mine either, mine are also stored away in the box. I just use the Oculus hand tracking to turn on the link cable when I first power up and use a track ball mouse for DCS. i5-11600K CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb G2
Ahdidaas Posted August 23, 2023 Author Posted August 23, 2023 Yea, I'm using the controllers to click around the cockpit. I like that I can use either hand this way. I'm trying solutions for where to put them so they're easy to grab when needed, and won't roll off to the floor.
PhoenixRising Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 I stopped using the controllers when I got a PointCtrl, but I did like them before I got that for clicking switches. One suggestion I saw, but never tried, was to put a long string between the two controllers and drape it over your neck. 1
Dogmanbird Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 (edited) I like to keep one on hand or at arms length..... it's just for pointing. I'm using buttons on the joystick instead of the controller Edited 19 minutes ago by Dogmanbird Edited September 3, 2023 by Dogmanbird
98abaile Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 I don't use them either. They might be more useful if you have a vive setup that can track them outside your field of view, but having to contort yourself to see the switches and then try to use them while keeping them in view (especially with arm rests) is just too cumbersome. So much easier to just turn your head and use a regular mouse.

Terry Dactil Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Also not used in-game. However, kept handy for the occasional "Play area not found" annoyance. (A 3D printer is almost an essential accessory for DCS now ) z
