pappavis Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) Dear siteadmins. Please act on users expressing their geopolitical view for example, having a certain country' flag as profile picture as per 24-Feb-2022. At present time having a flag as profile pic is a unnecasary provocation. I consider DCS - a neutral safe democratic forum for everyone from all (geo) political views - to talk about DCS & flying. - No geopolitics - No provocations by using flags as profile pics Even if a geopolitical view is radically differnt than someone else, one can find common ground in hobbies, love&affection, and mannny other topics. And myself having experienced 3 radically different language-cultures: African, Asian & EU cultures my conclusion is: we are very much alike in many things. Thanks & safe flying. I agree on keeping political discussions out of the forum, but censoring the avatar images is too much (in my opinion, of course) ... don't see how the Forum could be considered "democratic" with that kind of censorship. Dear Michel, Our current rules restrict the discussion of politics in these forums. There should be no talk of current affairs or geopolitics. Any discussion like this in ANY section of the forum by ANY member should be reported either using the report function or you can even send me a direct DM. That said... Profile pictures are a personal representation of that person, and we will not restrict the usage of country flags in their pic. I am a proud Canadian and if I thought it was important to me at some point I might use our flag in a profile pic. Using any country's flag is a choice, as long as its a current valid flag and not some sort of symbol of hate or such. What we do not allow are political or racial symbols be it flags, symbols etc. that are related to politics, hate, or violence and the kind, things as the swastika, the confedirate battle flag, the Z and more. Yes, it can be a fine line at times, and I am happy to review any concerns you have, be it posts, images etc. by any user or even Team member, ED, 3rd Party or otherwise. As suggested it's a balancing act and I am learning new things about different cultures all the time, if I am missing something, let me know. Dragon1-1 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I have to say ED's policy is the right one. Nationalist chest-thumping for its own sake isn't right, but showing a flag of a country that you care about is not that. As long as it's not a flag of hate, of course (sorry, Zorro fans, you know who to blame ). What certainly has no place on this forum is political censorship. That said, it's kind of hard not to talk current events at all on a military aviation forum. Especially since some of the very hardware we're simulating is being used in those events. 3

pappavis Posted September 22, 2023 Author Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) Hi NineLine. >> There should be no talk of current affairs or geopolitics. 100% agree. I find using certain national flag(s) as profiule pics inappropriate and provocative given the current geopolitical situation. In current times anyone can be offended by anything: flags, COVID-19 vaccinations for/against, LHQBT for/against etc etc . Its a minefield. To be consistent my suggestion is: no national flags or nationalist symbols on the forum. DCS can be a 100% neutral place where real-life at war enemys can interact on common neutral interests and have a fun time together -- without even knowing its your real life ortal enemy. My personal experience: One may discover you share many many more commonalities / interrests with the mortal enemy than you'd care to admit. 20 hours ago, NineLine said: the Z and more Imagine using the Z of the Zorro-movies on my profile. Someone else uses whatever-controversial flag/symbol/picture whatnot. 20 hours ago, Dragon1-1 said: As long as it's not a flag of hate, Since we cant agree on The Truth lets keep The Truth on Telegram-groups but not here. I trust the judgement of siteadmins to enforce the rules without prejudice, without conviction, consistent and equally: either everyone gets to post Z+Ukraine, Azerbaidjan+Armenia, Afrikaner geopolitcal view resulting in chaos, or nobody. 20 hours ago, Foka said: his same sentence you demand political censorship. Bold move... Allowing an UA flag while banning Z is inconsitent. Either allow both, or none. To prove a point. I've changed my profile pic to the Zorro-movie logo . That was my €0,01 contribution.
