It's not the automatic "I win" button that many hoped or feared it would be. Its current iteration is a useful tool in the right situation and I can't wait to try out features as they come.

You still have to make it your sensor of choice and set the correct FCR mode for it to work properly, which is a bit confusing at first, because there are no indicators--or at least I haven't learned to find them yet--telling you that maybe you are doing something wrong, other than it just doesn't work.

Yesterday I followed Wag's video on how to use the FCR from the back seat and if I had seen an Apache doing this in a movie before I would had though it was 100% Hollywood fiction. So impressive. And this is military technology from like... +30 years ago?

It reminds me of those Robotech scenes where they fire bursts of missiles and then they fly in all directions looking for their targets, but in slow motion. I can imagine a dozen or so of these machines wiping out the whole ###### army out of ###### in like a week.

Imagine giving it a "full automatic mode" for when the crew are 100% sure that they want everything that is shown in the radar obliterated. Just keep the trigger pressed and the missiles fly off one after the other until you run out of missiles, each one flying towards its individual target.

This might be possible with AEGIS "Automatic engagement" function, but on the AH64D, the Longbow radar is not powerfull enought to be an all seing eyes and is limited by many factor, terrain being the first.

Per the bug report section there is def something goofy going on with it, for one the elevation is possibly backwards.  But aside from that being able to see an entire vehicle in the TADs but the radar can't see it seems wrong as well.... so I'd say it seems a bit 50/50 atm.

There is one thing that everyone seems to be ignoring. Just because you can see it, does not mean it will give usable radar signal back. Ground clutter is a thing

The issue you described with seeing it in the TADs view but the radar was blank is the issue I was struggling with last night. I could zoom with my eyeballs and see the targets next to the road in the open field but the radar didn’t pick them up. I had to climb way, way up to like 800ft before the radar picked them up. I tried various settings but nada and even tried manual azimuth and elevation. There were a few trees but nothing like a big forest or buildings blocking my view since I set it up in the ME to practice on! I figured it was probably something I was doing wrong because I was well within 3km of the targets. I’m sure it will get easier and I Will definitely go back and watch all the tutorials again to see what I’m doing incorrectly. I will say I thought it would be much easier and not as much tweaking but I’m not an Apache pilot either nor have I really studied them other than the DCS videos & the Chucks Guide and what I’ve picked up here sand there. Most of my time I spend in the F16 and F15E now. Still love the choppers though especially in VR!

This usually means you engage with TADS, not the FCR. If the FCR is an absolute requirement, then reposition and scan from a different angle.

Yep I agree but it was a quick mission I setup for practice with the FCR. Kinda nukes the whole point if I don’t use the FCR for a mission to use the FCR!🤣

There seems to be an issue going on when switching to manual elevation controls and back to auto. I read that the elevation is reversed or something. I hope they can iron out the kinks soon.

Does this apply to game though?

At a minimum, by an approximation. You can truncate or simplify the picture and estimate what clutter might do to the returns, then go from there. But as I have not seen the actual code, it might very well be simulating a clutter effect.

It seems to me that even open, clear, field causes 'ground clutter'. From my yet limited experience--about 30-40 AGM-114Ls fired under the control of FCR on MP training server from 4YA--about 1/3 of the Hellfires miss their target; some by only feet, some by much more. It's no wonder they had to implement a score card into the software for picking which targets yet need some TLC (Totally Loud Caboom!! the exclamation points are implied in the abbreviation).
