I would love to see damage model worthy of 21st century, like in GHPC (Gunner HEAT PC armed vehicles simulator) for example. Damage there is not based on a large hitboxes + scripted response/decals/animation but instead projectile and fragmentation paths are traced and damage to various components and personnel is checked. You can even review it afterwards:

In DCS, at least in UH-1H Huey (which I love btw), damage model is very primitive. You can hit front of the chopper and after certain amount of "points" the main rotor or tail will fall off... Not a single paid model should act in this basic way in 2024.

That would be awesome, but would also probably bring virtually everyone trying to play DCS's computer to it's knees to do all the additional calculations involved ☹️

The current engine will not work with this type of damage modeling. 

To be honest we don't need this , however I do agree some models do need an update . And I would say these are the older models, .

Remember this is a flight simulator not a FPS . Lots and lots of calculations are being made every second. It's very taxing on the system.

Actually, the sim can easily handle it, and still be pretty convincing. Just like with the aircraft, which have modeled 'damage zones', the same can be done with the vehicles. Destroy the tracks of a tank, it can't move for a bit. Destroy the engine, the vehicle stops, and its powered systems (like the turret) slow down. Hit the weapons, they get knocked out and can't shoot. An ATGM hits the ammo, and the Turret crew joins the local space program.

One thing I'd like to see is that if a tank is knocked out (and its turret not get sent into LEO), I'd like to see the crew abandon the tank, maybe even make a run for their lines, or just take cover behind their tank.

Modern Damage model on Aircraft and Helos has on develop. The WW2 Aircrafts was the testbed to that technology, and modern elements, require more develop time. vehicles, ships and infantry, has planned.

Currently the WW2 aicraft have best DM. Modern aircraft and helis are ok but still need an upgrade. Ground vehicles and ships are worst offenders and DM for them is asked for and planned since years.

Hi, 

we are planning better damage for units but it wont be soon, it is a large task and we already have a lot of work ahead of us. 

Damage can be seen in the F10 map and on the unit health bars, also we recently introduced a light smoke when a unit is damaged to help visualise if you are not using F10 or BDA popup.
