Ive been using open beta all along.  What happens when theres no open beta and only stable?   If I update my open beta does it become the new stable?  What happens to all my mods?   I dont see any explanation re this migration online.  😞  can someone clarify?

Just carry on.  As much as there is talk about "unification" all it means is that they are only releasing one build at a time for both of the "old" systems.  All stable was was an older version of OB.  Now instead of OB getting a number of updates then Stable getting one update to bring it to the same spot there is only one build released at a time for everyone.  Sounds like they may clean up folder names down the road, but for now you can run with whatever you have currently and you won't notice a difference. Both old OB and Stable people will be running the same thing (even though it may reside in OB folder on one persons computer and Stable folder on anothers).

Nothing changes for you, just update as you normally have, nothing happens to your mods at all

What about Steam users, do we need to opt out of beta at one point or will it automatically make the switch?

I have been running both the Open Beta and the Stable version on two seperate SSD drives on a dedicated DCS PC... (the theory being if one crashes at least there is a chance the other will still work 🙂 ) Do I need to delete one of them or will I cause a contension by leaving them both on the same PC?

You don't have to delete one but it absolutely makes sense to delete one of them.

OK, thanks for the prompt reply... I might delete the OB on the C:\ drive then and use the Stable that is resident on the D:\ drive; possibly this will help the OS on the C:\ drive to operate while running DCS at the same time?

OS always operates, no matter which drive it's installed on. You couldn't run DCS without it.

Btw, the reason for keeping 2 versions of DCS didn't change with new "One DCS to rule them all". You can still keep 2 of them if you want. Ex. you have one 2.9.2 and the new one 2.9.3. Next time you update the 2.9.2 one and keep the 2.9.3. Next time you update the other and so on, so you always can have one previous version.

So I have 2 installs as well.  One is OB, and is a bit dated but it works to my liking.  My fear is always that there will be some major problem with a new (stable) version that causes things to not work as intended.  A great example of this was a few versions ago when I noticed that AI aircraft were no longer able to consistently perform in flight refueling.  I brought this to ED's attention and they eventually fixed it, but most of my missions would not have been playable in the interim had I not had a second (older) copy available.

Now my question: I have several aircraft (mods) that I can use without issue on my OB (older) version, but when I try to use them in the stable version, I receive a message on startup that "The following DLCs are not authorized and will be disabled:" It then lists my mods.  Any ideas on how I can use these mods in the stable (updated) version?  Is there an issue with what folder I should be placing them in?  I tried to duplicate the folder structure from the OB version, but perhaps I did something wrong?  Thank you as always!

If you have the licenses for the planes which these mods require then add an exclusion to your anti-virus software, e.g. Windows Defender, for your entire DCS installation directory and run a slow repair of the game.

Check also the instructions for the mods as most should be going into your Saved Games folder and not the main DCS installation folder.

Thank you Sleighzy.  I think maybe my issue is that I placed the aircraft in the incorrect folder.  I see that they are in the Saved Games folder under Mods>Aircraft (for the older OB install).  It doesn't look like the 2nd install created a second Saved Games folder?  I had simply copied the aircraft into the Program Files>DCS>Mods>Aircraft.  Do you have any guidance on what folder I should be placing these aircraft Mods in?  Do I need to create another Saved Games folder for my 2nd install and paste the mods there?  Any help here would be appreciated!

Like he wrote. You must (should) check with each mod, while I wager to get that each one goes in Saved Games. What you call the actual mod folder under the aircraft folder doesn't matter. One usually just unzips them. If you still have them under OpenBeta, you can just recopy the whole Mods folder. It's not created automatically in Saved Games. Them you should perform a complete repair of your new installation.

A new DCS/DCS.something folder should be created when you ran the exe for the new installation. There are ways to manipulate what it is called. Under your Core OpenBeta installation, you will find a file called dcs_variant.txt, and inside it will be a single word, openbeta. If you copy that file to your new installation, your new installation, will also use the DCS.openbeta Saved Games folder, as an example of how to manipulate it. If the dcs_variant.txt is empty, it will use the DCS folder under Saved Games.

Cheers!

Got it, thanks!  Just copying seems to do the trick - I just needed to find the correct folder.

On a related note since I have 2 installs...if I run the repair tool on my old version, will that have the effect of updating it to the latest version?  Will it remove any mods in the process?

Thank you!

Apologies for a late reply. A repair won't update unless you acknowledge it.
