Avira user here. During the latest update download Avira found and quarantined this                Drop.Win64.ScoreInject.5475

I didn't have the bin-mt folder in the exclusion list, forgot to add it when the mt switchover happened so it may be a false positive.

Bit of 'support' from DCS and clarification on DLL files triggering Antivirus.

thank you for your message to DCS World support.

Please add DCS World folder to antivirus and firewall exceptions or disable it completely.
and run repair with an options: Check all files (slow) and Search for extra files after repair.

You will find more detailed information on repair here:
https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/repair/#2463807

You don't necessarily need to disable the antivirus software, but it's important to add the DCS root folder to the list of exceptions.
Failure to do so might result in issues after each update.
The reason behind this is that some files are encrypted, leading the antivirus software to incorrectly flag them as malicious.
Rest assured, there are no viruses in the DCS files downloaded from our official website.

I am using McAfee and I don't have such freedom to exclude DLL files from scanning. It can't even exclude folders for virus monitoring.

I basically need to buy other kind of antivirus to play DCS now. Nicely done DCS with the new update.

From lots of prior posts here, some AV options (espescially Kapersky, ESET, AVIRA and to a lesser degree McAfee) have issues with false positives with DCS (and presumably other programs).  And have false positive problems consistently.  IMHO if an AV is throwing that many false positives I'd move on to another one, because at some point it becomes like crying wolf and you're going to ignore an actual problem because you've had so many false positives.  But that's just my opinion.

Why not use Windows anti virus and exclude DCS folders and othet sim related folders . No need to buy , not unless your work committed too.

so … you have a crappy antivirus and somehow it is DCS to blame? .. nice 🙄

pd: you can buy whatever you want, but Windows does include a free antivirus that is pretty decent.

1. Don't use McAfee. It's just crap and adds nothing of value over the onboard solution from windows.

2. False positives are not the fault of DCS. It's just the way AVs work. If there happen to be a snippet of code that was put in the search heuristic that is similar enough to some lines of code that happen to be used by DCS (or the other way round) it produces false positives. Just by chance.

You always trade detection rates vs. false positives and false negative quotas. Some AVs do it better, some worse. And it can change from instance to instance.

That's the reason, a file should be quarantaned and checked with virustotal to get a clearer picture.

AVs only work when you use them thoughtfully. No AV is a fire and forget solution!

Well. I never had this problem between DCS and McAfee until April 10's update. I am not blaming DCS as you put it. I am trying to find some sensible solution.

that’s probably because you are a new user and there have been just a couple of updates since your registration. If you search for "mcafee" you will find lots of users that have had the same issue on the past few years.

well, Im not a native english speaker, so I may have misinterpreted the "nicely done" on your post … to me it looked like blaming ED. Sorry if you meant different.

It does seem like there's a lot of 'wolf crying' going on already 😞  If the whammy sneaks through or it's already here... so be it, lol.  The benefit of running a dedicated DCS machine with nothing else on it.  When it craps out, wipe it out and re-image and... wait for the next whammy. JUST KIDDING of course.
