If you have video showing petrovich has clear line of sight and not obscured by trees in a long session please add them here. I have also mentioned to our testing lead to take another look during the MP sessions. Again if anyone has short tracks please add them.

thank you

Would a tacview file help? I uploaded the file from the track I posted. Mi-24 ( Bob 7-1 | WhatAboutBob71 ) (+1:44:56). I knew the units were there because they killed me previously, the unit in question was clearly visible to me on my attack run, it ends up killing me after my failure to kill it with rockets and guns. Petrovich never listed it as a target; I did get one unit with ATGM's before attacking the unit in question. I extended because I knew it was there and then I attacked from the sea.

No, it's useless. It can't be loaded into the dev tools.
Cheers!

Sorry no track but we have the same problem in our virtual helicopter Squadron since the last update.
Today, during a multiplayer session It was impossible to lock a target with Petrovitch. Petrovitch don't see anything...
I have to add that we were 03 Hind pilotes and this issue was encoutered by all of us (We are flying the Hind since the first day).
An ennemi column of vehicles was clearely identified but it was impossible for Petrovitch to propose the target menu even when the sight (at the beginning of the mission) was placed just in the middle of the ennemi column. 🤨

I Wonder how this issue can be solved

people obviously got different experience

Anyone have this offline in sp?

If this happens in a public server again. Can you see if it is a problem on a quick mission afterwards. It is obviously a problem that is difficult to get a useful track. I fly little to none on public servers. Only coop with mates and campaigns and have absolutely no problems. It is clearly frustrating for all parts

Please tell us on which mission you saw the issue, at what time, and in which part of the terrain.

- Mission mapped by a member of our virtual Squadron (I can sent the .miz file to you)
- Map SYRIA (SANLIURFA Area)

Small test on a multiplayer server --> See .trk + .miz
2 Shilkas in open terrain placed on each side of a main road.
First one was locked quiet easy.
For the second one Petrovitch didn't saw anything...🙄

Before that I tested another mission in solo with a convoy of 04 BTR-80 on the road (a long and straight road without bushes or buildings around it) coming from the south to the city of SANLIURFA (Syrian Map).
Petrovitch was unable to report any vehicles...

I am very interested in your feedback 🙂

Many thanks, @Razorback. I'm seeing the same thing as you are: Petrovitch can only find the western Shilka.

However, the eastern Shilka is very well hidden among trees and it seems Petrovitch simulates pretty well (at least in this case) what the non-IR human vision can achieve or not. I let you find the Shilka in the picture:

Thxxx @Flappiefor the feedback. Very interesting….

Petrovitch seems to be now very limited regarding his detection capacity which could be qualified as more realistic. That’s a very good news but the bad news is that the ennemy IA units are much more capable in DCS compared to the reality. The Mi-24P in DCS risk to become a mouse for the cat! 😏

I have seen the same thing since the clutter simulation was added. I believe Lazzy Seal worked very hard and also had us at BSD give times of how long it took us to pick targets with periscope in cluttered areas.

Maybe it needs toning down a bit, and sometimes I think “if I just have Petro look here for 10-15 seconds maybe heI’ll find it” but only happens occasionally. I think it was a really good addition and Petro is still better then human in a few areas, but just might need some tuning

I've just reproduced the problem in the MP mission @Razorback sent me. This time, the convoy is clearly visible on the road through the periscope, and even when Petrovich places the sight right on them, he cannot find them. I'm now searching what causes this before reporting the issue. Maybe it's the weather.

Are they using some kind of voxel-like spacial partitioning to optimize the search algo? Because that might result in a fine altitude problem by putting a virtual terrain block on one side of the unit. Usually when I run into this, the vehicle can't be spotted from one cardinal direction but maybe from the opposite direction.

Happened once to me. I went from opposite direction and Petra found them. But first attempt he ignored the convoy entirely.

No idea, but that could be an explanation. In Razorback's MP mission, the convoy is advancing on a road that looks like a trench, even though it does not look like a trench on my screenshot. Petrovich is unable to find any vehicle placed on the road. But he can spot all vehicles on the fields nearby.

The problem is not the weather, nor nearby objects or trees, not the distance. It's as if the terrain would conceal them. I'll report this.

My experiences are on multiplayer servers. I must assume you "testers" don't test in those environments.

I've just seen this part of your post (I know, I'm late) and I'd like to answer.

We "testers" do multiplayer test sessions regularly. I for one test the Mi-24P often, because it is one of my favorite modules.

Regarding this specific issue, it has nothing to do with multiplayer since I'm able to reproduce it in SP. It seems like some terrain parts act as some anti-Petrovich invisibility cloak, which probably explains why we  "testers" missed this issue, and why I also missed it when you initially reported it on April 11. Since you did not provide a track, I didn't even know where to look.

Yesterday, @Razorback sent me his mission and told me where Petrovich was having issues. I didn't have a track but since I regularly fly the Hind, I was able to reproduce the issue in about 20 minutes. The issue is now reported internally.

Had you been more specific in your initial post, maybe this issue would have been fixed in May. So, please, be more specific the next time you report a bug (guidelines are here).
