I expect the AI CH-47F to utilize the doorgunners in the exact same way I expect any AI helicopter to use its doorgunners. If there's an enemy unit nearby, the AI shoots at it, and that is exactly what happens with the Chinook. I don't have any need to program an AI unit to use doorgunners, that's the developers job and they already did it. If I don't want them to shoot, I can just set the ROE to reflect that choice. Again, I don't own the module, I'm just using it as an AI and the gunners perform identical to the Huey's gunners in that regard. I don't have any clue how the gunners work if you're actually trying to fly the Chinook. I would expect they would work the same way they do in all the other helicopters, but like I said, that is obviously something that has not been added yet given your confusion... Only thing more I'd like from the Chinook's gunners is to have the ramp gunner added and more options for their weapons, such as the M134 which it doesn't seem likely we'll get. AI ones, sure, I'm talking about the player used one. On the other ED helicopters with door gunners (UH-1H, Mi-8, Mi-24P) there are button bindings to bring up an overlay that show's the current settings for the AI gunners, and bindings to set their rules of engagement (Safe, Return Fire, Free) and burst length (short/long). These are missing on the CH-47F, and I can't get the door gunners to actually shoot at anything. _THAT_ is what I'm trying to figure out. By "player only" I was talking about "in a player controlled CH-47F, do they only work when manned by a player?" since I couldn't figure out a way to get them to shoot at targets otherwise. How completely AI controlled Chinooks work is not really relevant to me right at this moment.

Nealius Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 The M60 struck me an odd choice as this isn't a Vietnam-era bird. Did the US Army use the M60 at all post-2000? Wikipedia says the M60D has been replaced by the 240H in US service.
Tomcatter87 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I recently got the book "CH-47 Chinook: Boeing's Tandem-Rotor Heavy Lifter (Legends of Warfare: Aviation)". Included are several pictures of Miniguns and 50-caliber-machineguns being used as door guns - in standard US Army CH-47F, that is, not special operations or british Army Helos. I get that this wasn't the standard choice, but given the wide proliferation of the Chinook, those weapons would really be a great addition. "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return." Check out my DCS content on Instagram
Gruman Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 With the MH-47 Mod we really need to replace those M60's with some M134... Tholozor Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 If you look in CoreMods/aircraft/AircraftWeaponPack/Shapes, you'll see there's models for a ramp-mounted M3 and door-mounted M134. 2 2 REAPER 51 | Tholozor VFA-136 (c.2007): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3305981/ Arleigh Burke Destroyer Pack (2020): https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313752/
ANDR0ID Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) Looks like we might get M-134 and M3 as options "soon". Great to see it is apparently being actively worked on. Still hopeful for the extra "quarter" gunner positions (five total) as an option at some point in the future as well. Edit: Reading is important, I see @Tholozor beat me to this by over a month Edited December 6, 2024 by ANDR0ID 1
