Looks cool, now bring on the DCS: T-80 module. :D

And no this does not detract from ED's efforts of improving the main pillars of this sim. Programmers do tech stuff, artists make the pictures prettier.

Looking very good, even at this early stage! ;)

And i still see people asking questions regarding fps..

But guys, seriously, it's the year 2009, and we will probably see DCS: A-10C in 2010 sometime (guessing). Graphics are getting better everywhere, and the expensive hardware today will be quite cheap next year..

So don't worry about it. :)

hardware upgrading never gets benefits from a bad-coded program. and i still get some stuck in BlackShark, though it's so good.

Well grass doesn't look too FPS unfriendly, doesn't it?!

Grass has it's LOD and density, and probably there's the grass on / off option in the graphics settings...so IMHO, keep it up ED!

Any improvements to the detail, graphical or otherwise, are for me a big plus. I would, however, like to see this kind of detail in A10 AND Blackshark rather than just A10. I hope that this will be the case!

I'm not quite sure how it will work, but i believe that that everyone can update to the latest DCS standard for each new flyable that ED releases in a new DCS module. The only main difference will be that they can't fly the latest jet/chopper unless they buy it.

Yes this is what I understood from comments made in 2008. There just hasn't been much mention of it recently or in this thread.:lookaround:

It's hard to tell from ED's statements how this will be handled. I believe their intent was to do that in the beginning, however to me it seems they are facing some huge problems and have hinted at lately that online compatibility is the aim for now.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I'm sure its just the process of an update or patch on current BS then bam u match the new version of DCS with out the new aircraft being flyable.

or do it like COH, set it up so you have an account, and you login to that account to play the game. Each registered key is added to the account adding that content to be unlocked, without that key, you cant play that content. That would allow you to put out the latest DCS files, however without that key, the content is useless if you don't have access to it.

Current Sims:

DCS Black Shark, Falcon 4.0, X-Plane 9, Steel Beasts Pro PE, IL-2 1946, ArmA 2, FSX, Rise of Flight, EECH, Harpoon 3 ANW, CSP

...and then the keygens will appear.

That would be a real shame as it shortens the life of each of the DCS products. In five years when a person first comes across the DCS range, having everything using the same engine would be a massive bonus as it keeps all of the range fresh, attractive and income higher.

Flight sims might have less of a generic appeal but they seem to have an active following for years and years and it would be good to tap into asset of the market.

Yes of course that would be nice, but it seems it's not gonna happen.

Why do you say that? Where have you read that the initial plans have changed?

I think ED never said that plans had changed, the way i see it is they just swapped from 'every module will update the DCS core engine' to this:

I may be wrong of course but this is just what statements hint at, IMHO.

Hmm, I think that's far too vague to be able to make draw any conclusions. Especially since making each iteration of DCS compatible in multiplayer still implies that each would have to be brought to the same standard. I strongly suspect that this would be far simpler to implement than managing compatability across a wide range of code bases.

That ground cover's great - some more detail on the ground will add to both immersion & gameplay for ground pounding...

& I also think the statement is too vague to draw any conclusions from.

Cheers.

That was not the only post, there were some quite explicit that i'm not able to find ATM. However, multiplayer compatibility does certainly NOT imply that the games run exactly the same engine, that is for sure.

Edit: I agree with Weta, lets get this thread on topic again :)

Sorry, just one more offtopic post.

But here's a statement made less than 3 weeks ago on the Russian forums that indicates they're still planning on maintaining all modules on the same engine:

Yes, thats right.

As far as I know, engines on different modules will be updated to the same engine with patches, to grant compatibility between the modules.

Nothing new so far.

what plant subpylums are those?

hard as I tried, I could not name any of the vegetation in those shots. Sure to drive botanists crazy! They must be from the Martian surface!!

just kidding, of course!;) Great looking screenies with terrific detail.
