astrospud Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Hi Sniper, Depending on your joystick, this can be done outside of the games programmable inputs using you joystick's proprietary software - on my Saitek X52Pro, it's the SST program. You can have canon fire set in game, and set release weapon in the joystick software. You cannot fire both canon and hardpoints at the same time, so this is a safe option. Rectum non bustus
SniperRu Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Hi astrospud, thanks for the answer ill give it a try. I'm using SST as well for my cyborg fly 5, however I'm having some trouble assigning some functions, for example I assigned the toggle hover to a button (Lalt+T) but in the game it doesnt work for some reason, I'm suspecting the SST software cant handle 2 key-functions :/ anyone can help? Also, I have 2 new problems: 1- My trackIR ''center'' is looking at my lower left console instead of the HUD, I have no idea how it happened and I cant fix it.. :( - for example, when I press the recenter key of the TrackIR software it goes to that console and it is centered there, so if I want to see the hud I have to turn my head to the upper right ... its very uncomfortable. 2- How do I use unguided rockets properly, I'm having an aweful lot of trouble aiming with them because the heli is hard to control (especially rudder wise).

It should be able to handle 2-key functions, so this is strange. Make sure you don't have "stickykeys"; ie another key or function is silently and continuously inputting while you try programming the SST. One way to check, if you have Win 7 is the On-screen Keyboard. 1- My trackIR ''center'' is looking at my lower left console instead of the HUD, I have no idea how it happened and I cant fix it.. :( - for example, when I press the recenter key of the TrackIR software it goes to that console and it is centered there, so if I want to see the hud I have to turn my head to the upper right ... its very uncomfortable. Sound like you have the TIR centre key set to match the snap look left down. This needs to be programmed by the user, so the best way to make sure you beat it is to erase all references to views ingame and build it up from there. Time consuming, but I fear necessary. 2- How do I use unguided rockets properly, I'm having an aweful lot of trouble aiming with them because the heli is hard to control (especially rudder wise). Haha! Welcome to the club, mate! I have been flying the Ka-50 for near 3 years now, and I still suck using unguided rockets. It's all about a fine control touch and trimming your ship to set up the run a couple of km before strike. Also, make sure you loose the rockets at maximum permissible range, so that you can break off the attack with out having to overfly the target. Bloody hard if you are target fixated! :pilotfly: Rectum non bustus

Bloody hard if you are target fixated! :pilotfly: I think it's important to note that rockets aren't meant to be precision weapons. Think of them as artillery or a shotgun - the idea is to get lots of metal in the air in order to hit an area of targets (instead of individual targets). (Unless they're retrofitted to become guided rockets as demonstrated by BAE, but we don't yet have these on the Ka-50 :-) ) That, and take Astrospud's advice. A good run in and a well trimmed helicopter are the keys to a good rocket attack. Also, make sure you've got a decent range indication (that is, having locked something in the target area with the Shkval at the beginning of the run in) because without proper range, the Ka-50s targeting information and, as a consequence, the HUD reticle will be way off.

I don't think its a TrackIR problem, when I set it to pause and then press the cabin view keys, it does the same. When I press Num5 to recenter, it goes into that position (looking at the lower left console) It actually thinks that the center is there for some reason... :/ I'm not sure what am I supposed to do to fix this, its quite annoying ninja edit: I found the problem, its the snapview file in config\view, I replaced it with the snapviewDEFAULT.lua one. It's fixed for now. I still have no idea how it got f*cked up Edited March 20, 2012 by SniperRu
astrospud Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 In DCS, look for any reference that uses numpad 5. What ever function is associated with with that key is the source of your issue. Rectum non bustus
BigBANGtheory Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Hi guys I could do with a little advice/opinions on a using multi-monitor setup... In BS2 I have three screens working with the option of spanning the view across all three or splitting the Shkval and Abris onto the two side screens using different options files... The issue I am struggling with is the effect I am seeing on the side monitors when spanning the cockpit view across all three screens in combination with TrackIR input. To cut a long story short it looks like the horizon is tilted downwards at the sides when you look off the center monitor. Can I compensate for this somehow? (obviously not wanting to tilt the screens at the side physically)

SackDestroyer Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I just started flying BS2 about a week ago (despite having the game for months), and I have to say I'm enjoying it a lot more A-10C. Not that that games bad (it's amazing, in fact) but there's something very visceral about the Shark that is missing from the Warthog. Also, it reminds me of the fun I used to have as a kid playing a helicopter sim called Gunship (anyone familiar with it?) I pretty much have the weapons systems and general flying down pretty well, although I do still have a tendency to spaz out a bit during intense combat. Where's a good place for a feller such as myself to go online? Oh, one more thing. I dunno if it's appropriate to ask here since it's not an ED game, but is anyone familiar with the Camanche vs. Hokum simulator, known as EECH when fully modded? I've heard it's supposed to be good, and I'm itching to try out the American choppers. How does that game compare to BS2? Thanks!

BigBANGtheory Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I was hoping to replay and learn from the 'airshow tracks' mentioned by owners of Black Shark 1, but I only own BS2... I'm aware there are track incompatibilities between the two versions but is anyone aware of something similar having been ported to BS2 or uploaded into video (like the training missions but with the input controls visible)? thanks...
Panzertard Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Unfortunately there may be such issues with the trackplayer - it changes quite a bit from version to version. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

You really need to get a proper joystick. But if you insist on using some weird controller first use windows control panel to confirm that all axes are working properly and that the controller is calibrated. Only then you can proceed to troubleshooting within DCS. I'm aware there are track incompatibilities between the two versions but is anyone aware of something similar having been ported to BS2 or uploaded into video (like the training missions but with the input controls visible)? I'm fairly certain it's the other way around: "Air Show" came with BS2 and isn't available for BS1, so you should be good to go and play it as well as watch the tracks. Here's an example of a sort of 5 out of 10 performance. :-) Besides, is it really a problem to replay BS1 tracks in BS2? It's most definitely a problem to replay BS2 tracks in BS1, but the other way around might actually work (but I'm not sure).
BigBANGtheory Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Thanks for that Yurgon. FYI if yu read through this thread you can see BS1 owners discussing the track as demo that I assume came with the installation: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37178 I'd like to see the control inputs for some of these maneuvers if possible ideally in BS2 but I'd settle for YouTube if some kind soul has the time.

Ah okay, I'd never noticed those tracks. I thought you were referring to the mission called "Air Show" that came with BS2. Unfortunately the tracks don't play back well in my 1.0.2 installation; in both tracks ("Flugshow Min Vody.trk" and "Flugshow-Shepski.trk") the chopper crashes after a while. I also played "Flugshow Min Vody.trk" in BS2 1.1.1.1 but the chopper never even left the ground, so I'm guessing playing BS1 tracks in BS2 is in fact a no-no.
Skymad Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Hi, I have a question about campaign: is it me, or the AI doesn't turn on datalink? When I try to send wingmen coordinates, send/mem button is flashing - he didn't receive message. Also when I tell him to attack datalink target he responses negative/unable... I noticed that when mission starts on runway datalink switch on radios panel isn't turned on... but when I start the helo manually AI datalink works. Any ideas? DCS World 1.2

I haven't installed 1.2.0 for World yet so can't confirm. But in previous versions, the datalink was usually set to the "on" position when the mission started ready for take-off (just checked with a self made mission with waypoint 1 set to "Take-off from runway" in 1.1.1.1).
Skymad Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I have another question: why sometimes engaging autohover disables ATT, BANK and HDG channels? Helicopter goes crazy when this happens. I engage A/H mode mode at ~10 km/h, so it should work. I noticed it always happens when there is no speed indicator on the HUD (+xxx in the upper-left corner of the HUD). Speed indicator on the HUD sometimes appears few minutes after takeoff... but everything seems to be turned on.
winz Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Speed indicator on the HUD sometimes appears few minutes after takeoff... but everything seems to be turned on. AFAIK the Ka-50 uses doppler radar to measure ground speed and this radar needs few minutes to warm-up before it can operate. The authover is dependent on this radar and cannot operate without the doppler radar. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
Skymad Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 That happens below 4 m AGL. Stay higher. I know that, thus I try to engage A/H always above 4m AGL. Typically at 250-290m 9km away from the target.
Yurgon Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 AFAIK the Ka-50 uses doppler radar to measure ground speed and this radar needs few minutes to warm-up before it can operate. The authover is dependent on this radar and cannot operate without the doppler radar. That is correct, auto hover requires the Doppler Navigation System to be... erm... aligned, or booted, or finished, or something. :-) As already suggested, the most visible indicator that Doppler nav is ready is to have a speed indication in the HUD. Without it, never turn on auto hover. BTW, it's quite possible to mess with rotor RPM in a way that the engines can't supply power to the generators in flight (when that happens, the Shkval goes dark as well). That, too, will lead to Doppler nav not being available until it's ready again after a few minutes. The 4m AGL limit is always in effect.
Skymad Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 And one more question :) Is it natural, that Shkval doesn't lock onto a tank from 9-10km? Just happenned on multiplayer session. Sensor status ТГ. Like it didn't "see" the tank, but it was in open field at range of 9km. I couldn't lock onto any of the few tanks. (?!). Of course laser armed.
