sobe Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 When I try to open the KB, the game freezes and no KB opens. I was just wondering if it was a game issue or just me? Flappie Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Try these solutions: Run a DCS cleanup and repair, then run DCS, and try and call the kneeboard. If step 1 does not help, temporary rename your "Saved Games/DCS" folder to "DCS.bak" then run DCS, and try and call the kneeboard. If step 2 does not help, remove the fresh "DCS" folder and rename back your old "DCS.bak" folder to "DCS". ---
Solution sobe Posted July 2, 2024 Author Solution Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) Flappie Well Step 2 worked fine (after I had to recall my user name and password). Now what do I do? I run a lot of mods and things. So now what do i do? start putting things from my old saved games into the new saved games folder one folder at a time until I find the problem file? For example, I have a number of liveries that change Russian cockpit labels to English, etc. I also run Helios in the scripts folder. I notice that the old DCS.openbeta folder is now just DCS. Is that correct? I think yes because of the now combined regular and open beta. Thanks for your help. Yes, you do that. Start with mods for new aircraft, clickable FC3 mod or new objects. Liveries and Helios should be fine. Yes, new DCS folder created by the game is correct. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Flappie Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Exactly. @sobe If you manage to determine which mod causes your issue, please tell us, because it will probably help other users. ---

Hi, rather than simply putting your Mods at /Saved Games/DCS/ you may prefer to start using a Mod Manager, this way diagnosing conflicts is much easier as you can simply disable or enable Mods as needed, instead of doing all the work needed to re-build your Saved Games as it was ... on my case, I settled with the OvGME Manager, but there are a couple of others as well, mine looks like this (only the ticked Mod was in use, the rest are disabled): Here is a tutorial on how to use OvGME: Best regards, Eduardo For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
sobe Posted July 2, 2024 Author Posted July 2, 2024 Rudel I already use OVGME and that might help to speed up the process Flappie I will report back when I find the culprit and kill him. I think I may know the problem. Since I use two monitors for Helios, I found a mod that correctly placed the kb in the upper left of monitor 1. Maybe that just screwed everything up. I disabled the mod with OVGME but apparently more was needed. When I continue to use OVGME, I guess I now have to direct changes from saved games\DCS.openbeta to saved games\DCS. plott1964 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Does anyone know if we can use OvGME after the fact? I mean, can we get OvGME to look in the saved games folder and compile a list of mods already installed - or do we have to start from scratch? No, you can move the Mods you already have at /Saved Games/DCS/Mods/ and place them somewhere else, say E:/DCS/01_Mods_SG/Mods/ and then tell OvGME that's the place where you keep your Mod "originals": Then, when you enable a Mod, OvGME will copy it to your Saved Games structure. sobe Posted July 2, 2024 Author Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) Flappie and Rudel I have reconstructed most of my saved games folder for DCS and left about 1/2 of the old files behind as are either no longer used or could have been the issue. So far everything is working fine and the KB is nice and working. I may never find the cause of the problem, but at least the computer, the game and me are all happy. JUST A DAY OF MY LIFE WASTED.
