The various small bushes etc on the map seem to be scenery objects instead of grass or forest, this means the grass/clutter slider has no effect on them. Additionally the LOD switch factor slider also seems to have no effect on the LODs used by these bushes.

Yeah, that is correct. I tried to increase the vegetation by a higher LOD-rate, but only objects like tents... are effected. Bushes and stones always appear at the same distance.

That's not a problem for aircrafts, when you are flying in high altitude, but it is very annoying when flying an helicopter. All those bushes and stones suddenly appear, looks like they just start to grow very fast. 😞

I think it should be quit easy to fix this for DCS.

This is an general problem and also affects all other maps (Syria, ...)

Yep the issue is across all maps, it really needs adjusting now by ED now we have so many helicopter's in DCS, last night in PG the popping out of the ground for the small bushes as your flying low was awful, really spoils the game

Very true! While going Mach1+ five feet off the ground is super annoying.

In other words, please fix this! Rubble grass whatever. Fun thing though, noticed in Syria today, that some of those bushes appear at the "correct" distance, while they also "blow up".

I moved this to the general bug section as it affects all maps, I will look into it and make sure its reported if needed. Thanks.

Thanks for the Update @NineLine.

(Edit 1) As a Hack I just tried Renaming the Syria surfaceDetails folder to \Mods\terrains\Syria\surfaceDetailsxxx.  And the map still look very impressive without Trees - lol

(Edit 2. ) Renaming Syria.sd5 is less of a dramatic hack >> \Mods\terrains\Syria\surfaceDetails\xxxSyria.sd5

  • One solution would be to include a Slider in Special Options or in the Setup Menu that can minimize or remove SurfaceDetails.
  • I also got about 14 more FPS on the ground with Syria doing this renaming butchery. 😆

Good Luck to the Map Makers and Eagle Dynamics on finding a more professional solution.

Cheers.

Gotta test that. What would be even better if they could render further out, and not grow like some alien mushrooms, and be completely covered under snow.
