Is it just me but is anyone else enjoying the hell out of Arma 2 aircraft? The immersion level is off the charts in this game. Im flying it with my new Trackir 5 and I have to say is Wow. Attacking tanks and other armor is pretty easy but the wow factor is off the chain lol. One thing tho? Why they didnt put flares in the game? I dont know but with sam systems shooting at you they should have put flares in.

you should put a patch request in for flares and chaff for air units.

maybe see this later on. once major bugs are fixed first.

am running tir 4 pro here its great once you set it up the way you like

There were no flares in OFP, no flares in Arma, no flares in Arma 2. This is 8 years.

No chance. They just don't bother ;)

I saw a mod for flares for Arma and it look pretty cool. Cant wait to see what the modders will do with this game.

Yes, but they are just for the eyecandy, they don't do anything.

@ Maximus_G:

I also doubt that they will include chaff/flares. Airplanes are in, because it's a part of modern warfare and they attract some additional players, but beyond the weapons, the flightmodel, physics and damage-model is really not enough to compare it to a real simulation, IMHO. Sorry to be blunt, but even Battlefield2 had working flares. :smilewink:

Me to Blacknemisis!

For sure it is not a flight simulation, though flying CAS with a squad mate in a Cobra, while the other guys fighting on the ground- is fantastic.

And I though that BF2 had a ludicrous flight model -

Don't know (It's not my video) - but it sounds like it is borrowed from a Commodore AMIGA.

BTW : it seems to me that the flight model has its origin also on this platform...

!!!!!! hhaahahah :D

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

I'm having a BLAST with ARMA 2. The flight models ARE a joke but it doesn't matter cause it's really about what the planes do for the ground experience. Lower end systems would probably have a hard time flying anything except helicopters, cause once you go above 500 feet the draw distance falls right off and you're flying inside a graphic cloud.

I was on a server the other day that was probably the most fun I've had online ever. Everybody seemed to be working together, it was a 100% co-op server against AI. We had two squads of mixed classed soldiers (sniper, riflemen, support guys etc). We had two dedicated UH-1 pilots (WHO WERE OUTSTANDING at getting us in and out). They literally spent their time dropping us off and picking us up when we needed. In the mean time they would RTB and chill at the airbase. They also had dedicated A-10 pilots who waited for our call to bring the rain.

We were ferried in about 5km's from the target zone, the pilots stayed low so as to not get picked up on radar. We grouped together discussed the map on TS (squad leaders spoke, we listened) The two squads split into two groups at "Pincer" moved in on the target zone from the North and East. It was a long trek before we saw any action, but good conversation and jokes all around kept things interesting.

At the edge of the forest looking down to the village we saw a few contacts and some armored elements. We called in the A-10's...gave them the coordinates of the armor and 6minutes later the boys from the 152nd streaked in from the west BOOM BOOM BOOM...then they were gone RTB to re-arm.

With air defenses and big guns on the ground gone the UH-1's came in and with door gunners circled the village to cover our advance and send any enemy position our way. We made a nice clean sweep, snipers at the treeline were our eyes on the ground and gave us minute by minute updates on our general area.

Anyway we swept the village with only one injury...mission took nearly 3 hours total. We retreated to extract zone, popped green smoke and RTB.

THIS is how ARMA should be played...GREAT teamwork, no lonewolfs.

Anyway, just a great experience...despite the foul flight/target models of the planes...they're awesome to watch and have on your shoulders as a tiny insignificant ground soldier :)

Does it support multicontrollers?

Finally It Does!

I'm able to use the saitek paddles and the Hotas Cougar simultaneously in ARMA2

ARMA1 didn't allowed me to do this - I had to use PPJoy to create a virtual joystick that included the axis' of both controllers so that I'm able to use separate rudders in arma1.

A SAM is radar guided so flares wouldn't do you a damn bit of good.

No.

A SAM is a Surface-Air-Missile. It can be guided by a variety of methods ranging from infrared-seekers over passive and active radar to remote controls and laser.

But in an infantry-based game, the most common thread is the shoulder-launched IGLA or STINGER or equivalent. And they are infrared guided.
