WOW! I havent touch online but if its how you say it is this game will suck all my spare time up lol.

It sure as hell did this weekend, I played on the same server tonight, a few of the same guys were on, but it was trolled upon BIG time by a bunch of wankers who were TKilling everyone at the spawn point and destroying all the choppers that tried to take off. It was a huge pain in the ass, needless to say I called it a night.

When it's done right....it's the BEST....but just a few trollers is all it takes to screw up an otherwise fun game. Server should be set to auto kick anyone who TK's.

Anyway the teamwork is a game like that is ESSENTIAL. I found myself a few times tonight trying to clear out a village with armor elements and all I had was my M4...not going to do much against an APC with a agitated gunner.

At one point before the TK started we cleared this town so the red zone became green and just enjoying the quiet serenty around me I hear distant choppers. Much to my dismay they were HIND attack choppers bringing in more troops and laying waste to whatever of us they saw. I managed to hide under a tree...they landed let their boys out (this is all AI by the way) and hovered RIGHT above me about 100 feet. ALl I can hear is two menancing hinds I could FEEL their rotor wash. Anyway I did bring with me some form of anti tank missle, and I had a clear shot at the hovering hind.. (i was DIRECTLY below him). Black hawk down style i emerged from the safety of the tree, and fired....BOOOOM HIND one comes crashing down, I had to run out of the way of the debris and his wingman just gatted me down lol.

The respawn is when the messes started with the TK and that was it (how I wanted to return and avenge myself against that HIND did get me)

I find your question is odd- should he buy something if it doesn't look good to him?!

I don't think ArmA2 is much impoved over ArmA... graphics wise yes, but don't think it's any more realistic... for example... watching a combat in forest... there's gunshots everywhere and guess what else you can hear in background... bloody birds "singing" :D

Also for someone to get this game to fly is stupid... you want to fly you get a flight sim... not that crap (but good looking only) infantry sim ;)

It's MUCH more improved over ARMA 2 and more than just graphics. The birds singing is funny yes, they need to work on the dynamic sound environment a bit. But the pops and whizz's/impacting bullets around you is AWESOME.

The flight is a joke, but you just can't get hardcore infantry sim and hardcore flight sim (there really is no such thing of a Hardcore Infantry sim without the ARMA/OFP titles) with the same title yet...another 7-10 years at least before we get anything that will satisfy both.

You're glad you have fighter/bombers though when you see a column of tanks rolling in on your position or if you need to get 10 km's to the LZ the fastest way. (C-130 airdrop or UH-1/Blackhawk/Hip or HIND) insertion. The sounds of the helicopters landing/taking off is also great. You can hear the stress of the engins when choppers take off radically.

But yeah if you want this to fly in, better off buying Black Shark/Rise of Flight/LOMAC/Falcon etc.

Its a ground combat sim first and the air side is just to add to the gameplay.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Er yeah, don't you? It's not the only reason i would buy it but it plays a very big part, i wouldn't buy one that didn't look good.

Anything above 1000 feet In ARMA 2 falls apart into a fog layer so it doesn't even look that good. Proof you can't yet have high detailed terrain objects in flight sims as of yet. Hardware cannot support it.

Even on high everything pails in comparison to what a real pilot would see at any alt. (or what a sim pilot would see)

There's things all through OFP/ArmA/ArmA II that can be termed as unrealistic.

The basic bottom line is that total realism is not feasible even with today's compueter processing. 9-10 years ago, a game like ArmA II would have shattered the boundaries and would have been atop every rave review out there. These days, we're so accustomed to eye candy and ballistics that we tend to ignore the positive attributes and just rip the games apart in every small area they fail.

OFP/ArmA/ArmAII were always intended to be Strategy and Tactical Sims from the first person perspective. A sandbox for mission makers and players who wanted to work in organized units rather than running like mad using quick reaction skills to score a frag.

So the flight model isn't dead on. It was never touted as a flight sim in the first place. The helicopter dynamics were always their main focus. Fixed wing were added atop the rotor wing dynamics.

It's a helluva game and will be alot of fun to play with other tactically-minded people....especially on the no respawn-no repair missions. Those missions carry the gameplay to a whole new level :D

Flight model in it is a joke... that put aside ArmA had some really crappy bugs I could not ignore (AI going through walls ets and not to mention the constant warping). This sim is for infantry only and anything other than that is far from realism, that bird sound was so obvious to me it was laughable... first thing that happens when you shoot a gun in forest is all animals/birds fly away ;)

Anywho, flying choppers for transport is alright, FM shouldn't bemuch of an issue there as its only for transport infantry but flying fixed wings in this is as arcade as it can get. I will stil be gettings it for sure but most definitely not to fly some Su-25, Su-34 or a chopper. Heck if I wanna fly Ka-50 I'll take DCS Black Shark :D

That's what just happened with OFP.

Many years have passed, and Arma (1 & 2) proved to be just an old candy in a new wrapper. It just lacks that breakthrough effect of OFP, there are no major innovative features. Only smaller things. Though, they're important too.

And i don't consider an ability to talk to NPCs like something important in a footsoldier sim :)

It's a bit better and somewhat more realistic, for example, now you can grab wounded persons and step through small obstacles. Graphics look better in simulation terms too.

BTW, what makes flying interesting in Arma - is the ability to interact with the soldiers. You can actually bring them in and out, and you can provide CAS for them. That's cool.

Only games like Huxley (MMOFPS), Infinity Quest For Earth (MMOG aka first person Eve), DCS Blackshark can break new and innovative ground now.

Everything else has been done. Graphical advances are fine, but are generally released in a game without any new or real substance. A good case was COD4. Looked pretty, but the gameplay was the same type of gameplay that's been around for years. Got boring after about 3 months.

While ArmAII may not have broken any staggering new ground, it gives us something with a more current look to it than the original OFP. The processing power just isn't there for a full out sim across the board (FM, AI acting like bonafied humans, land vehicle effects, person beside you jumping as hot brass falls down their shirt, etc)

Not everyone could afford a dual quad core system with Tri-SLI ;)

And, for the record, the flight model sucked in OFP as well but the game was still fun as hell to play :D

Woa, Huxley is still in production? That one fell off the radar a long time ago. Disappointing since it was my number one anticipated game for a while. I'll have to check in on it again.

FYI - Huxley is in closed beta for File Planet suscribers ;)

I confirm :) I have it actually.

If I were younger and still into twitch reaction shooters, I'd probably be on the hot seat playing it right now, but it took too long to get this far.....I'm old LOL!

OFP, Arma and now Arma 2 are anything but twitch reaction shooters.

OfP/Armed Assault/Arma2 are based on the VBS/VBS2 engines which are designed for dry training soldiers on the ground and the air units are a seprate entity i.e. not for training purpose, they have a seprate training tool for that, just as an added extra for game play. Theyare not ment to have proper FM or targeting systems.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
