Its finally here.  First iteration and successful flight test of the upcoming alert fighters (F-4E for now) out of Andersen.  The spawns will be randomized and only happen when you jump into the alert aircraft.  All you fighter jocks better be up to speed on your air to air skills.  These bombers will target random locations at Andersen to include client slots.  If it destroys them, those aircraft will be out of action.  This will enhance keeping those skills sharp and provide a real good reason to intercept.  Really looking forward to expanding this some more.  This was the first real test.  Felt great!

Is this a common error running single-player?  I just destroyed the last of 12 enemy targets...the watchtower, and this popped up...does it mean anything?

It was right at the pull-up point for a strafing run on the watchtower in the A-4E.  I was able to clear this message, and the sim immediately resumed, but with focus on another window so my joystick didn't work.  Crashed into the ground before I could change Windows focus back to DCS. 😭

Entertaining the idea now.  I have them in the mission and will start testing hopefully this week.  More to come. Need to make sure they do not impact other mods.

It pops up from time to time.  No reason that I can determine.  this is the second time I've seen a post from Rando4.  Does this happen for other groups?

The script is putting down an explosion and smoke on the position of the randomized group.

I am very excited to announce VSN has allowed us to test their upcoming F-104C standalone mod.  I am very impressed with the 3D model and flight model.  It will make a fantastic addition to ITJ when it is released.  We are also looking at adding the VSN F-4 B/C.  Both mods are having a minor conflict in ITJ we are looking into right now.  I hope to find the issue soon so we can place it in the mission.  I look forward to making more videos soon with ATA Refueling, Bomber Intercepts and some other functions.  Hope you enjoy the kickoff video and again, thank you to the VSN crew for allowing us to test this!

Well that's an exciting collab!

She looks 'kin awesome, and it's super cool seeing you guys working closely together as the mod hits the final furlong.

Been tight on time recently (defs not impacted by KCD2...!) but really looking forward to getting back Into the Jungle. Keep it up 🍻

I had to do a video on the updated VSN F-4 B/C.  Looking to add this as well when we iron out the conflict I am encountering with twitching in VR.  I am on the war path and will hopefully have it figured out soon.  There were not a lot of recent videos out there of the VSN F-4 B/C and I wanted to reignite the flame.  Download link is in the video description if you want to go get it now.  Last update was this year back in Jan/Feb time frame.

F-104 is up and running now really well on Into the Jungle.  Did another trial run this time using the VSN start procedure.  Got a rocket run in, ATA refuel, and smoked by 2 Mig-21s I spawned in.  The dogfight was a good time.  I blacked out at one point and had to recover.  Well done VSN!!!!! More videos to come!

March 10, 2025 Status Update

Its been a month since the last release of I2J (v2.011) and there's been quite a lot added to the mission over that time.  The next release is right around the corner as final testing is scheduled for this week.  If all goes well, I'll release over the upcoming weekend.

Highlights

Redfor Bombing Andersen - This is the first "mission-like" experience added to I2J.  Anyone entering one of the Alert F4 fighters at Andersen will trigger this mission (once - this does not reset until mission restart).  The Bomber and its escort(s) randomly spawn somewhere "North" of Andersen.  Repel the enemy attack.  If you allow the enemy to bomb Andersen, any client slots destroyed will prevent player spawns for 30 minutes thanks to Cfrag's sitting ducks script.

Redfor CAP - There's a new I2J Settings menu option in F10 Radio.  There you'll find an option called "Toggle Redfor CAP".  The default setting for this is OFF.  If toggled ON, the mission spawns Redfor CAP.  This CAP consists of a random set of Redfor inteceptor(s) set to patrol over the island.  Take them out.  When they are eliminated a new CAP replaces them at some point over the next 20 minutes.  You won't know when or where or what spawns, only that the mission will spawn something "soon".  If you toggle this setting back OFF, the mission removes any spawned CAP group and returns to the default clear skies state.

Added C-130 Hercules - This is now a REQUIRED modification as we include it in the mission.  Servers must load this along with all clients.  The link to the modification is at the bottom of this post.

AAA Threat - As more and more fixed wing assets are now in play (like the Herc), I needed to make the skies a little more unforgiving.  Period appropriate Soviet Flak now appears in certain random groups as well as on Alpha, Bunker and South Island perma-groups.  This really adds to the excitement of fixed and rotor flight.

Group death voiceovers - now whenever a random group is eliminated, a random voiceover plays.  Nice way to let players know when a group is eliminated.

Tactical Changes
  : Changed fog settings to expand the fog effect a bit as well as duration so it lasts longer - Thanks @SPOOKY 1-1!
  : Activated sitting ducks.  Any stopgap client destroyed prevents client spawning for 30 minutes - Thanks @cfrag!
  : Removed automatic spawn of remaining groups when last group eliminated
  : Made static sinking ships BLUE
  : Added probe tanker to the mission for USAF AAR
  : Updated tanker frequencies ["Arco" KC135: 263MHz TCN:63X "Texico" KC135MPRS: 264MHz TCN:64x]
  : Adjusted CSAR downed pilot reaction ranges by 50% so smoke and voiceovers happen when players are much closer to the downed pilot
  : Devil's changes to statics, adding Hercules, and general updates around the map.  NO NEW ENEMY
  : Added defensive code to I2J to prevent Bigsmoke from blowing up on nil coordinates

For people interested in experiencing I2J on a dedicated server, I highly recommend heading over to SPOOKY 1-1's public server called VIETNAM | Into The Jungle.  He hosts different variations of the base mission offering some different fog/weather/time settings.  There are also additional aircraft for those looking to expand on what I have in the "official" version.

Only just downloaded 2.011! Better get some flying in this eve...!

Well that was fun!

Loaded up the new version - all seemed pretty groovy, but frames around Antonio were unflyably low. Might've been my comp having a freak out rather than a mission issue, will have another look tomorrow.

Loaded into the server - very very cool. Frustrated a bit by lack of comms (a me problem; SRS set up but probs no good in the OH-6 (?), yet to join the Discord if that's what people are using for chat), non-functional gunners in the Loach (M60 and Minigun*) and rusty skills...but very fun to go charging about the place in company 🙂 Watching Gunship Huey pairs roll in hot was something of an education - they're beasts! Marking for Broncos is  great, as is the sound of the fast movers ripping it up overhead. Really cool.

*They load in fine, but I couldn't persuade them to track or fire for love nor money. Needed the AI eagle eyes to track down the last remaining target on the map - did you find it in the end @SPOOKY 1-1?!

Anyway, continued thanks to all, for all. Hopefully a bit more tomorrow 🙂

SRS works with every plane/Helo in the mission.  That's how we communicate.  The spooks are trying to push SRS.  I've spoken to @SPOOKY 1-1 about this and if I understood properly there are a lot of new pilots coming from SP who don't use or want to use it.  I'm personally not a fan of discord comms and hope that server can encourage SRS over time.

As for Cayuse SRS setup, there are a couple of knobs and switches you need to work before you can TR.  Mongo did a video on it some time back.  Hopefully this helps

Thanks @Mistermann! The frustration was because I know these things do work (radios and gunners!), I just couldn't get them to last night. No biggy, it'll be user error so I'll check out the vid again and make sure I'm not missing a trick...

My biggest issues with SRS:

  • Connection Issues: SRS fails to sync with DCS servers, causing "unknown" status and communication disruptions.
  • Separate Server Requirement: Users mistakenly try to connect SRS directly to DCS without a standalone SRS server.
  • Configuration Problems: Misconfigured export scripts and missing files prevent proper integration with DCS.
  • Audio & Mic Issues: Incorrect audio device settings lead to failed transmissions despite successful connection.
  • Secure Coalition Radios Setting: This feature can block automated services like D-ATIS and needs to be disabled in some cases.

Honestly, SRS is not the end-all savior a lot of people make it out to be.  ...just saying.😁

What's the score with the 'new' DCS integrated VOIP?

Just done a quick bit of testing:

  • low frames around Antonio unrelated to the mission - now running well both SP and MP
  • OH-6A gunners working as expected in SP; no joy in MP

If people aren't using SRS, then you're not going to get the realism-minded folks to join. This seems like a server/community that wants the realism-minded community over the arcade community. I was leaning toward recommending ITJ to the DCS Academy: Cold War Operations community to contribute their A-4E skills, but without everyone on SRS, that's a nonstarter.

No object or sensor export; yes to player export.

 

IIUC, enabling object export is just a tick-box for the server? Hopefully that's something which can be looked at - not only is the door gunner cool as anything to look at, he's also bloody useful!

@SPOOKY 1-1 will have to weigh in here as it's his server we're discussing.  I definitely lean towards an SRS experience.
