Michael-Fr Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 (edited) Hello, Is it possible to disable flight assistances so that the aircraft's handling is "rougher"? (Apologies to the purists who will cry heresy) I would like to find sensations that we find on older jets (F4, F14 to name a few) Is the "pitch overdrive" command implemented? Thanks in advance, Michael Edited December 20, 2024 by Michael-Fr
Default774 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 There is not. I'm not sure what you mean by pitch overdrive.
AndyJWest Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 The F-16 is dynamically unstable. The flight control system does not 'assist' flying, it makes it possible. 3
Solution Bremspropeller Posted December 20, 2024 Solution Posted December 20, 2024 (edited) The Manual Pitch Override switch is functional. Have a go and tell us what you found out Edited December 20, 2024 by Bremspropeller 1 So ein Feuerball, JUNGE!

Manual Pitch Override is implemented, and you can do some funny stuff with it. Holding the Manual Pitch Override switch gives the pilot manual control of the Elevators and removes the negative G-Limit when held. There is no practical use to this switch when you are operating within your aircrafts flight envelope. Edited December 20, 2024 by NytHawk
SpecterDC13 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 The MPO switch is only for nose down authority during flat spins or other stalls. It does nothing for you for pitch up maneuvers. 1 My PC: GPU-AMD 6800XT OC / CPU- AMD RYZEN 5800X OC / 32 GB RAM 3200Mhz / 1TB SSD / 2TB HDD / 500GB M.2 / Monitor: 34" Ultrawide Samsung 1000R Curve / WinWing F16EX HOTAS / TM Cougar MFDs / TM TPR Rudder Pedals / TrackIR5 / ICP
Michael-Fr Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 I will do some tests. Thanks for your answers and happy holidays to you.
VarZat Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 The manual pitch override also works great for throwing a solid curveball at your agressor when in defensive BFM
Istari6 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 As other have said, this isn't a limitation of DCS, it's a limitation of the real-world Viper. Unlike something like the F-4, F-5 or F-15, where there were stability systems to enhance flight, the F-16 is so unstable that without the active assistance of the FLCS, you'd swap ends with any maneuver. So no, unfortunately, there isn't any way to turn it off. If you're looking for a rougher and more visceral feel, I recommend the F-14 Tomcat. 1
darkman222 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 The manual pitch override is like the Hornets paddle switch. But only in the wrong direction The "older" jets without fly by wire handle more agile because you are flying it with a spring loaded joystick without inertia, or resistance due to the cables moving control surfaces that will make it harder and harder to move the stick violently when flying faster. Try to do fancy control inputs with a force feedback stick that actually simulates the forces, and youre not going to do fancy stick movements any more. But as this is not simulated on a spring loaded stick you can slap it around like crazy. 1

Thanks in advance, Michael If you want a rough aircraft the F-16 simply isn't for you. The whole purpose of fly-by-wire IRL is to make it non-rough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3 IN THRUST WE TRUST F-16C "Viper" Fighting Falcon The most Generally Dynamic airframe in history i7-9700K, RTX 2060 6GB, 32GB DDR4
Q3ark Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Sounds like you might enjoy an older aircraft more, try the Mirage F1 or the F4 Phantom. Those are far less forgiving aircraft to fly, if you want rough you can’t go wrong with the F4 3
